Tuesday night kicked off the Indiana State Track & Field Championship. The Lady Lancers traveled to Mishawaka High School to compete in IHSAA Sectional #5, squaring off against conference rival, John Glenn, and teams from across South Bend and Mishawaka. For the first time in several years, Sectionals went on schedule without weather delays, and the mild night & stiff competition created the prime environment for personal bests. Junior thrower, Denni Markin, led scoring for the Lancers. Her 114’9” throw secured third place and advances her to the Regional contest next week at Goshen. Markin finished the night in fifth place at the shot put, and fellow thrower, Lexi Huff, contributed to LaVille’s scoring effort with a fifth place finish at discus, and eighth at shot put. Freshman hurdler, Madison Mishler, was the only underclassman to advance to the finals in the 100M race, finishing sixth overall. Myliegh Tolbert split a three-way tie, in fifth place in her final season at the pole vault. INSC Long Jump Champion, Sarah Tharp, advanced to the finals but came up a position away from scoring with her 15’6” attempt. Both the 400M & 1600M relay teams finished sixth for the night. Markin and the rest of the field events begin at 6 pm at Goshen next Tuesday, entry is $10 per spectator.
