LaVille ended the Panther winning streak at eight during a 41-0 victory in the IHSAA Sectional Championship on November 5, 2021. We had a chance to talk with LaVille Head Coach Will Hostrawser about the Triton game and the upcoming HNAC game at Pioneer. Let’s tie up the performance against Triton. So many positives from Week 2, talk about a couple guys you felt played well and are worth mentioning for their efforts either on offense or defense. COACH: "Offensively, I thought once again our guys up front dominated the line of scrimmage - AJ Bedock, Erik Bedock, Hudson Doyle, Garrett Wagoner and Collin Allen. Owen Smith impacted the game running the football, catching passes, playing solid defense and returning kicks. Defensively, I thought Jonathan Neese had a breakout game. He impacted numerous plays in the second half for us on defense giving us the spark we needed." Talk about what impressed you about your team following the Triton game. COACH: "As a whole, we learned how to handle a little adversity. We grew together as a coaching staff and team last Friday night. Most importantly, there was no "panic" but rather clear communication, trust and execution leading to the outcome which we were after." What will the Panthers bring offensively and who are a couple of Pioneer players to watch? COACH: "They run what they always have - the wing T offense and they are one of the best at running it in the state. There is a lot of misdirection and violent line play. They trap as well as (if not better than ) any other team which we face all season. Caleb Sweet - their QB and inside linebacker is right in the mix of everything they do on both sides of the ball. He is quite a player." What will Pioneer bring defensively and who are a couple of defensive players to watch? COACH: "They have transitioned to a 4-3 this season. Their linebackers really play downhill well and scrape to the ball with exceptional speed - led by Caleb Sweet. They play fast and aggressive on defense and they gamble a lot with blitzes." What concerns you about this Pioneer football team Friday? COACH: "We have yet to win a ball game at Pioneer - it is a tough place to play. They will be very motivated to play us. They have a rich tradition of success and they will play hard for 4 quarters. They are well coached and it shows on the field." What do you feel like are important factors in deciding Friday's game against Pioneer? COACH: "We must stay focused on the task at hand and play one series at a time. Pioneer will make you pay for mistakes so we must minimize or eliminate them.Offensively, we must communicate well to pick up their blitzing. Defensively, we must be disciplined in lining up properly, reading our keys and pursuing the football. I also think the special teams phase will once again be a big factor in the outcome of the game."
