LAKEVILLE, IN. – It is week seven of the Indiana High School Athletic Association football regular season. And after a 21-20 Hoosier North Athletic Conference victory at Knox on September 23, Class 2A #3-ranked LaVille steps out of HNAC action to face rival John Glenn. Kick for the Homecoming game is set for 7 p.m. at Lancer Field. It's been said many times that rankings and records can be thrown out when John Glenn and LaVille meet. "Everyone knows everyone in this series," said LaVille Head Football Coach Will Hostrawser. "Both schools have a lot of history between them - this game is always meaningful. It's a good healthy rivalry in which both teams tend to bring out the best in one another - this game is always circled on our respective schedules." A year ago, the game was tied at 7-7 through three quarters before LaVille's Lucas Plummer picked off a Falcon pass and returned the interception 50 yards for a pick six and the difference in the game. LaVille held on for a 14-7 victory. LaVille leads the all-time series 30-25-1 as the two former Northern State Conference foes head for the 57th meeting. The Lancers have won the last four games and are 6-3 against Hostrawser's alma mater since he took over in 2013. JGs last victory at Lancer Field came on September 13, 2013 when the Falcons left Lakeville with a 29-9 victory in Coach Hostrawser's first year on the sidelines. Let’s tie up the performance against Knox. Could you please talk about a couple guys you felt played well and are worth mentioning for their efforts either on offense or defense. COACH: Offense - Paul DeWitt wanted the ball during crunch time and ran with purpose. Our offensive line - Collin Allen, Garrett Wagoner, Hudson Doyle, AJ Bedock and Erik Bedock blocked extremely well all night in the trenches. Defense - I thought Michael Good played his best game to date. He was in on a lot of tackles and had a key sack for us. You mentioned that the team responded to taking a hard look at ways to improve heading into this week's game. How have the guys come out this week in preparation for the annual John Glenn-LaVille series? COACH: Detail - focusing the details in all three phases in practice. Perfect the basics. Alignment, spacing, timing, angles - all basic things in the grand scheme of things - but absolutes to execute plays faster and more precisely. We have also worked to improve our on field communication. By this point in the year, the players know what's expected - now it's time to perfect and speed up execution. Talk about what impressed you about your team - defensively and offensively - following the Knox game. COACH: Being down for the first time at halftime, we did not panic. Collectively we regrouped, adjusted a few things and came out on both sides of the ball with a renewed purpose. Our defense sparked our offense early in the second half. When the chips were down - our defense made a play when the game was on the line. What will the Falcons bring offensively and who are a couple of John Glenn players to watch? COACH: Glenn runs a multiple offense rooted in the wing T. They also spread you out and will throw it a lot. They have a solid group of athletic players who have tremendous edge speed. Ty Larkin and Chase Miller are two guys in which we must account for every down. Their QB - Aiden Johnson - has a good arm and can throw the deep ball well. What will John Glenn bring defensively and who are a couple of defensive players to watch? COACH: Glenn runs a multiple defense based off the 4-3 / 4-4 scheme. Their linebackers play downhill well and are very aggressive. Eli Beeney stood out on film as did DL Will Brinkhoff. What concerns you about this John Glenn football team Friday? COACH: We must keep up with their team speed. What do you feel are important factors in deciding Friday's game against the Falcons? COACH: Field position is going to be big - so the special teams phase will be important. We must be able to contain their speed and defend the pass well. We must win 3rd down and our defense must get off the field. Offensively, we must sustain and finish drives. WEEK #7 Teams: John Glenn (3-3) at Class 2A #3 LaVille (6-0) Coaches: John Baron (3-3 in first year at Glenn, 129-73 in 18th year overall).
