ELKHART, IN. - The 29th Annual Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer State Tournament moves into semifinal action. LaVille is part of the Class 1A tournament series, with Sectional 35 taking place at Elkhart Christian Academy. The tourney opened at ECA on October 3, with Trinity Greenlawn battling Bethany Christian in a single match. Shemaya Magatti scored the lone goal of the contest to give the Bruins a 1-0 victory. BC (9-8) will now face Lakeland Christian Academy (6-10) in the second sectional semifinal game of the day at 7 p.m. Oct. 6. Bethany Christian advanced to the second semifinal match against Lakeland Christian Academy October 5. The Lancers will play in the first semifinal on October 5 at approximately 5 p.m. LHS (4-11-1) drew host Elkhart Christian Academy (10-5-1) . The winner will advance to the Class 1A Sectional 35 Championship Match at 7 p.m. on Oct. 8 at ECA. Earlier this season, ECA and LaVille met with the Eagles coming away with a 5-0 victory on Sept. 13. We asked Coach Christy about his first round opponent. "ECA has solid ball movement and quick defenders which makes it even more important to maintain possession with good touches as much as possible," said LaVille head coach Kevin Christy. "Like all soccer matches, defending is a major key to victory. We have had really great goalkeeping this season and our young defense has continued to improve faster than we ever expected. We have strong leadership through the middle and good touch and speed up front. "We as coaches are extremely proud of the young men we get the honor of coaching every day," Christy continued. "The parents have been really supportive as well. It was a successful season and we are ready for whatever gets thrown our way tonight (against ECA) and for the years to come." There were a record 305 boys teams set for competition in the 2022 state tournament. Regional semifinals will be played Oct. 12 with regional championships on Oct. 15. Semi-States are Saturday, Oct. 22 at four sites with winners advancing to the state championship matches on Oct. 28-29 at Michael Carroll Stadium at IUPUI in Indianapolis. This is the second year that a midweek regional semifinal match will be played on the home field of the sectional winners. This year, the winners of the even-numbered sectionals will host a regional semifinal match on Wednesday with all championship matches played at a predetermined site on Saturday. "There isn't an easy road for anyone in this sectional," said Christy of the Sectional 35 field. "There are really good teams throughout this bracket. The team that comes out of this sectional will have earned it."
