The Lancers are 4-3 over their last seven matches, including a season-best three-match winning streak and a third place finish at the Caston Invitational. With a week off since its last match has allowed LaVille to sharpen its game heading into its match with the Bearcats. 'This week we've worked on a few things," said LaVille head volleyball coach Pat Whiteman-Gring. ". . . quicker calls to the ball, coverage, hard hits at the net . . . these things have been tripping us up in games so I hope we can execute that during the match. We've also had a bit of fun so it's been nice to enjoy a bit of lightheartedness while we were waiting for Thursday." LaVille is led by several upperclassmen. Senior Lucy Sherk leads the net attack with 150 kills and 68 blocks so far this season.  Junior Ava Fuchs is next with 98 kills and 24 blocks. Senior Karisma Lewis is second on the team with 25 blocks. Elaina Borton, a junior, leads the Lancer defense with 284 digs. Seniors Emma Mears and Quincy Blodgett give LaVille added depth on defense. Mears has picked up 226 digs, while Blodgett has added 213 digs. Borton also leads LHS in aces. Wheeler, from the Greater South Shore Conference and finished fifth in the nine-team conference, is led by a group of seniors. Senior Megan Beck is the leading hitter, The 5-foot-9 outside hitter has a 28-percent kill percentage. Classmate Mikayla Haak, a 5-foot-11 middle blocker, provides a strong presence at the net with attacking and blocking ability. Haak has a 34-percent kill percentage. Senior Cori Weiland and sophomore Abby Allen lead the service game. Senior Christen Haas, along with Allen, Beck and Weiland lead the Bearcat defense. "Wheeler has a somewhat similar record to ours but in stat to stat comparisons, we lead," said the LaVille coach. "They definitely have some strength in their senior starters and so we will be keeping an eye on them." So far this season, Wheeler is 30-1 in five-set matches, while LaVille is 0-3 when the match goes to the limit. With this being a neutral site as North Judson-San Pierre is the host, LaVille is 2-5 in neutral site matches, while Wheeler is 1-3. When asked about the sectional grouping, Coach Gring said, "Without a doubt South Central is the favorite. They have a great record and they are unbeaten in their conference (Porter County Conference). We saw them at a tournament at the beginning of the year and they are a very skilled team. After winning to Wheeler, we would meet South Central on Saturday so we obviously will have a battle on our hands." Admission will be $7 per session or $15 for an all-session pass.
