LAKEVILLE, IN. – It's a football night in Lakeville! Class 2A #2 LaVille finished the 2022 regular season with its first-ever undefeated season - 9-0. The Lancers also closed up the Hoosier North Athletic Conference by winning its first-ever football championship, 7-0. Now, Coach Will Hostrawser's club embarks on its next journey - The Indiana High School Athletic Association state football tournament. LHS will open its quest for a sectional title by playing host to Whiting. The Oilers finished the season 5-4 overall and are members of the Greater South Shore Conference. Admission will be $7 per person (pre-school admitted free). Tickets can be purchased at the gate. There is no pre-sale or on-line sale available. The game can be heard on Max 98.3FM and viewed by clicking https://www.ihsaatv.org/?B=446703 With the victory over Culver a week ago, LaVille extended its school-record winning streak to nine games, but went right back to work in preparation for the next opponent on the schedule. This week, that happens to be Whiting. The Oilers are 2-3 in road games so far in 2022, while LHS is 4-0 at Lancer Field. Whiting is led by quarterback Nick Davenport, defensive tackle Joe Jendreas, and receiver Jason Noojin. Davenport is 54-100 through the air for 798 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. The Whiting QB is also a running threat, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Jendreas averages 10 tackles per game, and Noojin averages 19.1 yards per reception. WHS leads the all-time series with LaVille, 6-2. The Oilers have won the last four games. The last LHS victory against Whiting was a 35-14 decision at Whiting in the 2003 IHSAA state tournament. With seven teams in the Class 2A Sectional 33 bracket, 2A #5 Andrean received a bye. The 59ers will travel to either Whiting or LaVille for the semifinal round of the 50th IHSAA football tournament. We had a chance to chat with Coach Hostrawser about the Culver game and the upcoming game against Whiting. Let’s tie up the performance against Culver. Could you please talk about a couple guys you felt played well and are worth mentioning for their efforts either on offense or defense. COACH: "It was great to get Levi Stafford back in the mix from his hand injury. He really stepped in at outside linebacker and played well for us. He also spot played on the offensive line and did a nice job there too." Talk about what impressed you about your team - defensively and offensively - following the Culver game. COACH: "I thought we did a good job handing Culver on the line of scrimmage. Our offensive line did a nice job consistently opening up running lanes while our defensive line did a nice job of keeping our linebackers free so they could make plays." What will the Oilers bring offensively and who are a couple of Whiting players to watch? COACH: "Whiting runs a spread style offense and they throw the ball a lot. Their QB Nick Davenport is one of the best we will face all season - he is a true dual threat. RB Jeremiah Allard and WR Jason Noojin are two other offensive weapons we will need to keep track of as well." What will Whiting bring defensively and who are a couple of defensive players to watch? COACH: "Whiting is very talented in the box with a strong linebacker core and a strong aggressive defensive line. Joe Jendreas and Jeremiah Allard on the DL really stood out on film." What concerns you about this Whiting football team Friday? COACH: "They have the ability to really score a lot of points. They are dangerous in space and are very athletic." Talk about what you feel will be important factors in deciding Friday's game against the Oilers? COACH: "We must tackle well in space. Our pursuit must be on for all 4 quarters. Defending the Whiting passing game will be very important for us to find success." G A M E D A Y IHSAA Class 2A Sectional #33 GAME #1 Whiting (5-4) v.
