GAMEDAY: Mishawaka Next For LaVille Lady Hoops

MISHAWAKA, IN. - LaVille Lady Hoops returns to the hardwood for a non-conference game at Mishawaka. Junior varsity action is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the varsity game to follow inside 'The Cave' at Mishawaka High School. Coach Nicholas Amor's club is 4-2 overall and coming off a 42-12 victory at Elkhart Christian Academy. The Lakeville guests scored the first points of the November 22 game in Elkhart and never trailed to pick up its second consecutive victory. Heaylyn Kwiatkowski led all scorers with 13 points. Lucy Sherk added seven and Brooke Edison six for LaVille. LHS opens a busy week. Following the Mishawaka encounter, Amor’s squad opens Hoosier North Athletic Conference play on November 30 against Triton at Cox Gymnasium before closing the week with a matinee performance at South Bend Clay on December 3. The Nov. 29 and Nov. 30 games are scheduled for a 6 p.m. JV start, while the Dec. 3 contest is set for a 12 p.m. JV tip. The Lancer defense continued to step up, forcing ECA into a season-low 12 total points. LaVille's 'D' is allowing 26.3 points per game, seventh best in the state and third best in Class 2A behind Seeger and Eastern Hancock. Offensively, LaVille averages 38.2 points per game and are 3-0 when scoring 38 points. Mishawaka enters the contest with a 6-2 overall record. The Cavemen picked up a 48-24 win over Trinity Greenlawn on Nov. 22. The Cavemen have won three straight and five of their last six games. Senior Jadyn Handley dropped six 3-pointers for a game-high 22 points for Mishawaka. Junior Asiah Shaffer added 12 points. Lily Dawson led a balanced rebounding effort with five. Seven total players picked up at least three boards apiece for MHS. Coach Chadd Blasko's team averages 47.1 and is 6-0 when scoring 47 or more points. Shaffer leads the Cavemen offense with 11.0 ppg. Handley adds 7.9 ppg and senior Katie Baumgartner chips in 7.1 ppg. Baumgartner leads the rebounding effort with a bit over eight boards. Both Shaffer and Handley contribute a couple rebounds per game. The Cavemen lead the series 8-3 since 2002-03 and have won the last seven straight. LaVille's last victory was a 42-41 overtime thriller on January 3, 2007. The last Lancer win inside 'The Cave' was 55-54 heartstopper on January 4, 2006.
