SOUTH BEND, IN. - LaVille Lady Hoops returns to action on Saturday, December 3. The Lancers hit the road for a non-conference game at South Bend Clay. Varsity-only is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip.  There will be no junior varsity game Saturday. Following a 48-24 upset victory over 1A No. 8 Triton, LaVille returns to action with a 6-2 record and a three-game winning streak. Heaylyn Kwiatkowski led the Lancer offense with 15 points. Lucy Sherk added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lily Smith chipped in a career high nine points. "They played really well and executed the game plan," LaVille head girls basketball coach Nicholas Amor said when asked about his squad. "We had to double down on (Addyson) Viers and close out hard on (Kinzie) Atkins. This win was huge. The conference title is anyone's to take and we made a statement tonight!" Defense continues to be key for Amor's squad as the Lancers held Triton to a season-low 24 points. Following the defensive effort, LaVille climbed to the fourth-best in the state and No. 1 ranked defensive team in Class 2A. "Their defense continues to be the difference maker," said Amor. "Also, Lily stepped up in a big way offensively." On Saturday, LHS is looking for its first four-game winning streak since the 2017-18 season. South Bend Clay is 2-7 overall and coming off a 60-25 loss at John Glenn on November 28. Tyrece Cunningham led CHS with 13 points, while Maliya Freeman Gates added eight points. Freeman Gates averages 10.9 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per outing. Cunningham follows with 8.2 ppg and 8 rpg. A quick start offensively for LaVille sparked a 56-24 victory over Clay a year ago. Sherk led all scorers with 17 points and Kwiatkowski had 14 points as the Lancers led at every break. Clay leads the series 2-1 since the 2000-01 season. * * * * * G A M E D A Y Teams: LaVille (6-2) at South Bend Clay (2-7) Game Time: Varsity Only 1 p.m. Coaches: Nicholas Amor (6-2 in first year at LaVille).
