WINAMAC, IN. - It's a basketball night for LaVille! Coach Michael Edison's Lancer basketball team returns to the hardwood for a Friday night girl-boy varsity basketball special. Fans will be able to take in the varsity girls game beginning at 6:30 p.m., the varsity boys play immediately after at Winamac High School. Coach Edison's club is coming off a thrilling 47-46 upset victory over 1A #10 Argos just three days ago. It was a balanced scoring effort for LaVille and a couple late game free throws by Owen Smith that led the way. Collin Czarnecki and Smith led the LaVille offense with 10 points each. Ryan James added nine points, Collin Allen a career-high eight points, and the duo of Ross Wagoner and Michael Good chipped in five big points each. “I told my wife after the game that a big key to the game was that we were more balanced than we have been in a long time with our scoring,” said Edison. “Any team is a lot tougher to stop if you don’t have one person to key on. We had some really nice passes that led to people being able to finish. I felt Ryan James and Collin Allen did a great job finishing tonight. It was a great team effort! It sure could’ve gone the other way at the very end, but it didn’t. This was a great win for us! We will enjoy it tonight, but we have to get focused and ready for our next game against Winamac. " As LaVille heads to Winamac for the boys Hoosier North Athletic Conference opener, Edison wants to get off on the right foot in conference play. "With this being the first game of our conference we really want to be focused in and ready to go," said the Lancer boss. Winamac defeated LaVille 58-48 last year at Cox Gym. Smith led the Lancer offense with 18 points and Czarnecki had 15 points. The Warriors are 0-4 heading into Friday's HNAC contest following a 56-34 loss to Plymouth. Junior John Malchow leads WHS with a 12.3 point per game average to go with 5.3 rebounds per outing. Junior Jayse Bentle adds 10.5 ppg and 2.3 assists per game. Senior Michael Loehmer contributes 5.8 ppg and 3.0 rpg. Winamac leads LaVille, 6-5, in the all-time series.
