LAKEVILLE, IN. - It's a basketball night in Lakeville! LaVille coach Nicholas Amor's club returns to the hardwood for a non-conference game against South Bend Riley on December 14. The junior varsity game is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m., with the varsity game to follow inside Cox Gymnasium. The Lancers are coming off a 46-44 victory over Logansport on December 10. Lucy Sherk converted a bucket at the buzzer for the victory. Following the thrilling win over Logansport, LaVille improved to 9-2 overall. Heaylyn Kwiatkowski led the Lancer offense with 17 points. Sherk added 15 points. Brooke Edison picked up 11 rebounds, while the Lancer defense made 10 steals. Kuskye led the sniper attack with four steals. LaVille's defense continues to rank among the best in Indiana. LHS allows 28.5 points per game, which is fourth best in the state and the best defense in all of Class 2A currently. "I definitely think the 'it' factor in our defense is our communication," said senior Lucy Sherk when asked about the Lancer defense. "Switching on screens is something new for our team this season, and we've all had to adjust to that so being able to talk through things together on the court and push each other to the spots we need to be in has helped us get our success." So far during the 2022-23 season, LaVille has held 10 of its 11 opponents below its offensive average. "We still have some adjustments to make defensively," said Amor of his team's defense. "But overall, we are clicking." LHS is 4-0 so far this season at the Cox Box and looks to continue playing solid defense against the Wildcats. South Bend Riley is 1-10 overall and coming off a 63-22 loss at Culver Academy on December 10. Coach Michael Poole's Wildcats are 1-5 in games played on the road so far this season. * * * * * G A M E D A Y Teams: South Bend Riley (1-10) at LaVille (9-2) Site: Cox Gymnasium, LaVille HS Game Time: JV - 6 p.m. * Varsity - 7:30 p.m. Coaches: Michael Poole (4-30 in second year at SB Riley).
