WALKERTON, IN. - The LaVille basketball team returns to the hardwood. The Lancers take the short 11 mile ride west on US 6 for the annual meeting with John Glenn. This is the 81st meeting all-time, with John Glenn leading the series, 54-26. Coach Travis Hannah's Falcons are on the backside of a doubleheader weekend for LaVille. LaVille comes into Saturday's matchup with a 4-2 overall record after a 56-37 victory over Pioneer on Dec. 16. Collin Czarnecki hit four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 25 points. Michael Good came off the bench to add 14 points, while Owen Smith added nine. The Falcons enter the December 17 game with a 2-4 overall record following a 52-31 Northern Indiana Conference victory over South Bend Washington. Brycen Hannah led the Falcon offense with 18 points. Chase Miller and Noah Dreibelbeis added 10 points each for Glenn. This is a rivalry that is separated by 11 miles and finds both schools within St. Joseph County. Both coaches will tell you that it does not matter what the records are. You can throw rankings and records out the window. "Having Glenn just right down the road really makes this rivalry go into the upper echelon of rivalries," said Edison. "They have good teams year in and year out so it is always a tough game for us. I have a lot of respect for Glenn and the way they play the game of basketball. We know we are always going to get a solid competitor when we play them." The 6-foot-4 Brycen Hannah leads JG, scoring 17.8 points per game and hauling in 6.8 rebounds per outing. "Brycen Hannah is their number 1 offensive threat!" said Edison. "Hannah is one of the best post players in the area. You almost have to double team him, but if you do he sees the open man and gets them a shot." Edison knows his team will have to be on their toes both offensively and defensively against the Falcons. "Glenn is very physical on defense," explained Edison. "Coach Hannah will mix up both man and zone defenses. They primarily play man-to-man, but he will switch it up after time-outs or before the end of a quarter. They are aggressive and play with a lot of passion. On offense they will try to get it down to Brycen Hannah as he is an amazing finisher and one of the best passers in the area." Behind a 21-point performance, John Glenn picked up a 42-29 victory in Lakeville a year ago. Czarnecki was the only LaVille player in double figures, scoring 10 points. Key points of emphasis from Edison to his team will be, "Taking care of the ball. Doubling Hannah and sprinting out of traps and challenging shots by others, and rebounding." The junior varsity is scheduled for 6 p.m. tip, with the varsity to follow at John Glenn High School.
