After a nearly perfect season, a strong sectional showing, and a week of waiting on callbacks, four Lancers remained in the hunt to advance to the 2022 Indiana Track and Field State Championship Meet. It would be the third trip to regionals for senior standouts Olivia Goze and Madelyn Fuchs and a second consecutive trip for two-time Sectional Shot Put Champion, junior, Lucy Sherk. Joining them and representing a talented underclass was freshman Mikalah Kuskye. On Tuesday night the road to the state finals in Bloomington ended for the quartet. Olivia Goze, a top seed in both the long jump and 100M dash was plagued by a leg injury that would impact her shot at advancing. Fuchs ran her signature race, the 200M Dash, but her 27.14 preliminary time would not be enough to advance to the finals. Next up was Kuskye, the freshman callback. Mikalah started the 400M out quick, but a strong wind on turn four slowed her down in the last stretch. The last event of the night for the Lancers was shot put with Sherk. Lucy was a 10 seed going into the meet, so it would take everything she had to make it into the top 8 to earn regional recognition In the second preliminary round, Sherk tossed a 35’2.5” personal best that would secure sixth place but would not be enough to advance to the state meet. This concludes the season for Lady Lancer Track & Field until the 22-23 season.
