LAKEVILLE, IN. - It's a basketball night in Lakeville! The LaVille basketball team returns to Hoosier North Athletic Conference play in a Saturday night special against North Judson-San Pierre at Cox Gymnasium. The junior varsity is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow. LaVille enters the contest with a 4-5 overall record and 2-0 in the HNAC standings following a 81-62 loss at Westview. Michael Good led the Lancer offense with 22 points. Collin Czarnecki added 20 points. North Judson-San Pierre is 8-2 overall and coming off a 70-44 victory over Kouts on January 6. It will be the first HNAC game of the season for the Blue Jays. "North Judson is probably the best team in our conference," said LaVille coach Michael Edison. "They have a number of players who have been around and been contributors for three or four years. It’s hard to say who their best player is as they have three or four that can really hurt you at any time. They can shoot extremely well, they have good size, and they play great defense!" As Edison's club embarks on the 2023 portion of the schedule, the 15th year coach talked about some areas to improve on. "We need to work at playing hard half court defense every possession," explained the Lancer coach. "We also need to focus on getting high percentage shots on a consistent basis. Our guys need to continue to play with confidence and a high focus level. Hitting some free throws would also help!" Along the way, Edison has also been impressed with members of the senior class on the Lancer squad. "Our seniors have really come in with a good mindset this year," said Edison. "Collin Allen and Ryan James play extremely hard and do a great job on the defensive end. It will be neat to see who steps it up in the second half of the season." According to the Lancer skipper, keys to a LaVille victory Saturday against NJSP include, "Run them off the three-point line and lower their percentage when they are taking shots. Rebound! Value the ball!" LaVille is also getting back to full strength after starting the season with a couple of injuries. "We have a couple guys who didn’t start off the season because they were hurt," noted Edison."But they have been getting stronger and are really helping out our team at this point in the season. Michael Good and Lucas Plummer will continue to show positive strides as the year goes on." Game on . .
