KNOX, IN. - It's a basketball night for LaVille Basketball! Coach Michael Edison's squad will travel to Knox for a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game on January 13. LaVille is coming off a heart-breaking 55-52 HNAC loss against North Judson-San Pierre on January 7. Collin Czarnecki led a balanced scoring effort with 15 points. Michael Good and Lucas Plummer scored 11 points each and Ryan James added eight. "I felt we competed and had a very good chance to beat North Judson," said Edison. "The guys did a lot of good things on the defensive end to keep us in the game. I am expecting great things from them this weekend as we play Knox and ECA." Trailing 45-37 to enter the fourth quarter, Edison's squad got crucial steals by Owen Smith and Ryan James that led to key buckets to keep LaVille close. In fact, the game was 55-49 with under 30 seconds to play when Smith picked up his steal and found Collin Czarnecki for a bucket to close within four points. After the Lancer defense held on the next possession, Michael Good got an offensive rebound and was fouled. Good sank one of two charity tosses to make it 55-52, but could get no closer. LaVille leads the all-time series, 33-23, but the Redskins lead 16-11 in games played at KHS. "Knox is very quick and has a few players who will be tough matchups," explained Edison. "Austin, a 6'7" player for them, is a great shot blocker and scorer. He is almost averaging a double double in points and rebounds. Binkley, a quick guard, will also be a tough matchup. Knox is very well coached and always plays well at home. It will be a tough HNAC contest for us. Having another game on Saturday against a talented ECA team will also be a challenge. We are looking forward to a good weekend for the Lancers." Knox is 5-5 overall and coming off a 60-29 HNAC victory over Winamac. Seniors Owen Binkley and Declan Austin lead the Knox offense. Binkley averages 13.1 points per game and 4 rebounds a contest. Austin adds 11.3 ppg, 9.9 rpg, and nearly four blocked shots per outing. Freshman Myles McLaughlin chips in 6 ppg and 2.9 rpg. Both teams are 2-1 in HNAC play. LaVille heads to ECA for a Saturday night non-conference game. * * * * * G A M E D A Y Teams: LaVille (4-6) at Knox (5-5) Site: Knox High School Time: Varsity Girls - 6:30 p.m. * Varsity Boys - 8 p.m. Coaches: Michael Edison (204-130 in 15 years at LaVille).
