As most track and field athletes come to understand, it takes hard work, dedication, perfect conditions, and a little bit of luck to achieve a personal best. It’s the motivator of every athlete, personal growth--validation for the hours spent training. Many dream of competing in the state tournament, but only a select few make it to Indiana’s ultimate stage, the IHSAA Track and Field State Championship Meet. Lincoln Hulsey’s, hard work, dedication, and natural talent were rewarded by a trip to this event. In the Goshen Regional, Hulsey vaulted a mere 13’, a foot less than his personal best, but clean attempts would help him secure a trip to the state meet. On Saturday, Hulsey was on the quest to meet or beat his 14’ best while competing amongst the best vaulters in the state. The Sophomore vaulter was a seeded 24th in the contest, his 14'6" vault attempt was not only a new personal best, but ties the existing school record. From a statistical perspective today would be chalked up as a good experience, but Lincoln's vault would land him a spot on the champion's podium, placing 7th out of the field of 27. Hulsey will enjoy some time off, but continue to practice his craft in hopes of securing a return trip in 2023. This concludes the 2022 Season for Lancer Track and Field.
