LAKEVILLE, IN. - It's a basketball night for LaVille! Coach Michael Edison's club gets set for a doubleheader weekend to close out a three-game week. On Friday, January 27, LaVille will hit the road to Culver Community for a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game. Then on Saturday, the Lancers return home for a non-conference contest against Boone Grove. LHS improved to 9-7 overall with a 75-59 victory at Career Academy South Bend on January 24. Edison's squad jumped out to a 22-14 lead as Collin Czarnecki hit for 15 first-quarter points. The sophomore guard finished with 28 points to lead all scorers. Michael Good had 18 points, Lucas Plummer and Owen Smith added 10 points each, and Ryan James seven for LaVille. "I was extremely pleased with the focus level and the level of play our guys displayed against South Bend Career Academy," Edison said of his team's play Tuesday. "I really stressed to the guys that it is super difficult to come back after a big win and have a good performance. The guys did not let me down and played extremely well!" Culver enters the game at 6-7 overall following a 59-40 victory over Oregon-Davis. Emiliano Ortiz led the Cavalier offense with 18 points. Joey Pizur hit for 16 and Shane Shuman chipped in with 12 to lead CCHS. On the season, Ortiz leads Culver with 15.1 points per game. Shuman scores 12.5 per outing, Mason Herbert 11.7 and Ethan Keller 6.1 ppg. Shuman is the top rebounder. "Culver has the most unique defense that we will play all year," Edison said of his HNAC opponent. "They trap unconventionally at all different spots on the court and they anticipate and get their hands on the ball all the time. They have about five or six players that are very solid and they will be very tough to stop as they can finish pretty well." According to Edison, Shuman is a post player and is very active on defense and works extremely hard. Ortiz is probably their best offensive player and can play inside or out. Last season, LaVille had to rally in the fourth quarter before a free throw by Czarnecki with 2.9 seconds left helped the Lancers nip the Cavaliers, 33-32. "I really don’t know what to expect except that it will be very difficult to handle their defense," said Edison. "This game could go either way depending on the focus level and the way we handle the ball. Edison noted that LHS would have to take care of the ball, attack when the opportunity presents itself, and make good decisions on offense and defense against Culver. This is the 75th meeting all-time between LaVille and Culver. The Lancers lead the Cavaliers, 59-15. Game on . . .
