NORTH JUDSON, IN. - It's GAMEDAY for LaVille Lady Hoops! The 48th Indiana High School Athletic Association state basketball tournament is set to tip around the state. LaVille will open Class 2A Sectional #34 at North Judson-San Pierre High School by playing the Blue Jays. Hebron (5-19) will face Porter County Conference foe South Central (Union Mills) (20-3) in the 6:30 p.m. contest. The Lancers and Blue Jays will square off at approximately 8 p.m. Both games will be rematches of conference games played earlier this season. The Hawks and Satellites have met two times this season. In the regular season, South Central defeated Hebron 57-21 in a game played on Jan. 5 in Union Mills. On Jan. 16, the two met in the Porter County Conference Tournament at Morgan Township. SC picked up a 62-22 victory in round one. NJSP picked up a 31-23 regular season victory when the Lancers and Blue Jays collided on January 10, 2023, at Cox Gymnasium. It was a defensive battle in the Jan. 10 HNAC game in Lakeville, with both teams shooting a combined 18-of-75 (24%) from the field, including 5-of-35 from beyond the arc (14%). LaVille held a 23-20 lead heading into the final period, however, NJSP outscored the hosts 11-0 in the last eight minutes and finished 9-of-12 from the line in the deciding quarter. The Lancers shot 0-of-9 from the field in the frigid quarter, including 0-of-6 from beyond the arc against Judson's 2-3 zone defense. Sophia Frasure led the Blue Jay offense with 12 points during the first meeting. Olivia Burkett added eight, Kylee Lehiy four, Morgan Hensley four, and Reagan Hensley three. The Lancers got great scoring balance, but struggled from the floor. Lucy Sherk led the Lancer offense with six points, while Brooke Edison came off the bench to score five. Mikalah Kuskye and London Kwiatkowski added three points each. Lily Smith had two, Heaylyn Kwiatkowski two, and Jasmine Foster two for LaVille. Both LaVille and North Judson-San Pierre have held their opposition in the 30s this season, including the 13th best defense in the state from LaVille (31.8 points per game). Coach Nicholas Amor's club is 9-1 this season when holding their opponent to 31 points or less. The lone loss was to this very same NJSP team they play in the sectional quarterfinal. Meanwhile, coach Bayley Goodman's squad is also 9-1 this season when allowing 37 points or less. Their only setback for the Blue Jays was a 26-23 loss to Caston. Sherk leads LaVille with a 12.9 scoring average, while grabbing 7.7 rebounds per outing. Heaylyn Kwiatkowski adds 11.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg. Brooke Edison chips in with 5.7 ppg.
