LAKEVILLE, IN. – It’s a basketball night in Lakeville! Coach Michael Edison’s club will start its sixth doubleheader weekend of the season with a familiar foe. Triton comes to Dale E. Cox Gymnasium on Friday, February 10. The junior varsity game is set to tip at 6 p.m. Immediately following the JV contest, LaVille will recognize members of the senior class and their parents from basketball, band, and cheer. The varsity game between Triton and LaVille will follow senior recognition. The Triton at LaVille game can be watched by clicking on https://www.ihsaatv.org/LHSLancers/ on the IHSAA Champions Network. LaVille enters the Hoosier North Conference game against Triton with a 10-9 record following a 54-42 loss to 3A #5 West Noble. The Lancers were led by Collin Czarnecki with 14 points. Lucas Plummer added 10, and Owen Smith chipped in with nine points for LaVille. With four games to play in the regular season, we asked coach Edison where he feels his team is as we head down the stretch before the IHSAA state tournament. “I have seen a lot of improvement over the season, but it just depends on our focus and mindset as we go into a tough weekend,” said Edison. “I truly believe we can play with anybody on our schedule and I truly believe we can be beat by anyone on our schedule depending on how we decide to play on any particular night. With this being senior night it would be nice to go out on a nice note for our seniors.” As Triton and LaVille prepare for the 73rd meeting all-time in the series, games have seen a share of blowouts and one possession outcomes. “Triton is a big rival of ours,” Edison explained. “We have had a lot of good games over the years and many of the times they have come down to the wire. This game could go either way as both teams have different strengths that if executed in the right way could catapult their team to the win.” According to Edison, “Coach Groves has run man-to-man, Zone, 1-3-1, 1/2 court trap, box and one, and triangle and two against us in the past. He has a lot of different weapons up his sleeve and there is no way to know what he will really decide to run against us. What I can tell you is that they will be extremely tough as this is a rivalry game. He gets a tremendous amount out of his players and they will be ready to play hard, aggressive, and at a high-level. We have to contain (Cole) Shively, can’t give up easy buckets. We have to challenge every shot and have minimal turnovers.” Triton coach Jason Groves is 17-9 against LaVille in 17 seasons. Edison is 9-12 against the Trojans in 14 seasons. Junior Cole Shively and freshman Julian Swanson lead the Trojan offense. Triton averages 45.9 points per game offensively, while the defense allows 45.4 points per outing. THS is 6-2 when scoring 45 points or more. “Shively is their overall best player, he is extremely athletic, a great rebounder and scorer,” Edison said. Swanson, a freshman point guard who will shoot from Long Range. We must contain him.” Triton is 10-7 overall and coming off a 53-29 win over Trinity Greenlawn. The Trojans are 4-1 in the HNAC and in second place, just one game behind conference leader North Judson-San Pierre, who is 5-0 in loop play. LaVille is 2-3 in the conference and a win could move the Lancers into the top four of the HNAC with one game to play for LHS. Game On . . . . G A M E D A Y Teams: Triton (10-7) v.
