LAKEVILLE, IN. – It’s a basketball night in Lakeville! LaVille is 13-9 overall following a 57-46 road victory over Caston on February 17. Coach Michael Edison’s club put three players in double figures and another with eight points to finish the Hoosier North Athletic Conference at 4-3. Junior Lucas Plummer led the Lancer offense with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Sophomore Collin Czarnecki had 17 points and senior Owen Smith added 10 points for LaVille. Michael Good chipped in with eight points and hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds. We asked coach Edison about HNAC play this season. “I felt there was some very good competition this year,” Edison said of the HNAC portion of the schedule. “Our three losses were all pretty close and could have gone the other way. I thought our guys competed in every game and at least gave ourselves a chance to win each game. There are definitely some specific plays I would like to have back that might have been able to get us over the hump a little bit, but I think a case can always be made for wanting to do a little bit better.” With the victory over the Comets, LHS has now won 9 of its last 11 games, including a 2023 TCU Bi-County championship. “I think the guys have really done a good job at figuring out their roles,” explained Edison. “Each person on our team is instrumental in helping us to play well. We may have had some good games lately, but we have to be focused and ready to go every game or else we could stumble. Our goal is to always be looking forward to the next play and to always look at getting better. As soon as we start thinking that we have arrived is when we will fall on our face. We try to never look past anyone and to give everyone the respect they deserve, but we try to play with confidence knowing that we can play with anyone on our schedule.” Lighthouse CPC and LaVille will play for the first time. The Lions are coming into the Feb. 24 non-conference game with a 4-16 overall record. LCPC likes to play up-tempo basketball, can put points on the board and likes to play 94 feet of basketball. Lighthouse CPC likes the 3-point shot, with Reginal Holloway, Bryan Ware, and Steven Thomas the lead outside threats. The Lions shoot over 40% from beyond long range. Coach Derek Scott is in his first season at the Gary-based school. LaVille is 7-3 inside Dale E. Cox Gymnasium, while Lighthouse is 1-11 on the road so far in 2022-23. Game On . . .
