Hoosier Hysteria Moves Into Semifinal Round

NORTH JUDSON, IN. - The 2023 version of Hoosier Hysteria moves to the semifinal round on Friday, March 3. Following 92 games on Tuesday and another 53 games on Wednesday, we have reached the Final Four of the 113th Indiana High School Athletic Association state basketball tournament. A total of 401 teams were entered into the 2023 IHSAA state tournament. There were 100 Class 4A teams, 104 in Class 3A, 99 in Class 2A and 98 in Class 1A. A total of 397 games are scheduled to be played in 26 days. There are three schools entered for the first time - Dugger Union, Evansville Christian and Purdue Polytechnic. Evansville Christian won its first game and will face Tecumseh at the 1A Wood Memorial Sectional on March 3. Dugger Union and Purdue Poly lost in their first round games. Marion and Muncie Central still hold the record for the most state championships with eight. Franklin Community owns the all-time consecutive tournament victory record at 33 from 1920-23. The active consecutive tournament win streak is held by Beech Grove, Indianapolis Cathedral and North Daviess at seven. Entering 2023 IHSAA state tournament play as defending champions are: 4A: Ben Davis, Bloomington North, Chesterton, Evansville North, Floyd Central, Fort Wayne Snider, Franklin Community, Homestead, Indianapolis Cathedral, Kokomo, Mt. Vernon (Fortville), Munster, Penn, South Bend Adams, Terre Haute North Vigo, Westfield. 3A: Beech Grove, Brebeuf Jesuit, Brownstown Central, Culver Academies, Danville, Evansville Bosse, Lawrenceburg, Leo, Lighthouse CPC, Mishawaka Marian, North Harrison, NorthWood, Norwell, Peru, Sullivan, Yorktown. 2A: Carroll (Flora), Central Noble, Eastern Hancock, Forest Park, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, Hammond Bishop Noll, Linton-Stockton, Monroe Central, North Judson-San Pierre, Paoli, Providence, Rensselaer Central, Southmont, Tipton, Triton Central, University. 1A: 21st Century-Gary, Bloomfield, Blue River Valley, Borden, Edinburgh, Fremont, Indianapolis Lutheran, Indianapolis Metropolitan, Jac-Cen-Del, Lafayette Central Catholic, Liberty Christian, North Daviess, North White, Southwood, Springs Valley, Triton. Schools that won their first sectional championship in 2022 were: Lighthouse CPC (3A), Westfield (4A). And, the active sectional championship streaks of Three or more years features Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian with five, Beech Grove and Linton-Stockton with four, Leo, NorthWood and Southwood at three. In the 2A Sectional #34 at North Judson-San Pierre, the host Blue Jays have won 21 sectional titles, the last being in 2022. LaVille has won six sectional championships, the last being in 2020, South Central (Union Mills) has won three sectionals, the last in 2003, while Career Academy South Bend is looking for its first sectional crown. NJSP advanced to the semifinals following a 59-30 win over Wheeler. The Blue Jays are scheduled to face South Central (Union Mills) in the 6:30 p.m. opener on March 3. LaVille moved into the sectional semifinals following a 70-47 victory over Hebron. The Lancers are set to face Career Academy in the second semi at approximately 8 p.m. ET.
