LAKEVILLE, IN. - It's all about timing. During Tuesday's high school baseball game at LaVille, several LHS players were in the right place at the right time as the Lancers picked up a 3-2 win over Caston. Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, LaVille put ducks on the pond and was able to push a couple of runs home as the Lancers started the Hoosier North Athletic Conference with a 'W'. Pitching and defense rose to the forefront, especially in the early innings. "In the first four innings both teams were making plays in the field," said LaVille coach Brian Lawler. "I believe both teams turned a double play. The game was moving at a good pace." Then LaVille was able to put together a couple of hits to score the first run of the game. "We got a lead off Double by Karson Quinn in the 4th," Lawler said as his team was able to get a runner in scoring position. "Then Brayden Schwitz singled to drive in our first run." The Comets then came right back with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Caston was able to put together a couple of hits that helped them take the lead. It was the bottom of the sixth that brought the right time for LaVille's offense to regain the lead. "In the bottom of the sixth we were able to get a couple runners on," explained Lawler. "Alex Summers put a ball in play to score a run, and then Andre Gonzales got an infield single to score the go ahead run." Caston threatened in the top of the seventh, getting the first two runners out before a couple of point-blank throws helped LaVille pick up a key HNAC victory. "In the top of the seventh, Caston got the first two runners on," concluded Lawler. "(Sophomore relief pitcher) Andrew Wolford picked off a runner for the first out, and then (sophomore catcher) Karson Quinn threw a runner out at second to end the game. It was an exciting end to a really well played High School baseball game." Wolford and junior starter Lucas Plummer tossed consistent baseball from the bump, combining for seven strikeouts and two walks in seven innings. Quinn had the only extra base hit for LaVille, but that came at the opportune time to start the fourth.
