INDIANAPOLIS, IN. - LaVille head football coach Will Hostrawser would be the first to tell you that he was a little "apprehensive" heading into the week of the 56th Indiana Football Coaches Association Murat Shrine North-South Football Classic.Once he arrived at the University of Indianapolis, those feelings soon turned into "an awesome experience with a great group of guys'' "Coming into the week I was a little apprehensive about being away from my family and own team for a week," explained Hostrawser. " However, it was an awesome experience with a great group of guys. "Coaching in the IFCA North/South All-Star game was a lot of work," continued Hostrawser. "Coaches and players don't just show up on Friday night and play a game - we went through a mini-camp in Indianapolis for about a week prior to the game. We ran a total of 9 practices in 4 days at the University of Indianapolis. We all arrived really only knowing a few people and left with a lot of great memories. It was a joy and honor to be part of it all." With so many players and coaches not knowing each other and being away from the daily football routine, the IFCA has a four-day agenda to help the coaches and players return to 'Gameday' "Going in, I knew one coach on our staff - Coach (Brett) Lambert from North Judson," the LaVille skipper said."The staff was made up of coaches from winning programs - you could quickly see why the very first day. "It was a great opportunity to get to know how each program handles the things we encounter in coaching football - from summer workouts to staying healthy across the grind of a season. I've made friends and coaching connections that I will carry with me from this event forward. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of it all." Hostrawser is the second LaVille High School football coach to be selected to play in the IFCA North-South All Star Classic since 1966. Former head coach Larry Stillson was on the staff in the 1983 high school football classic. "To be chosen for something like this event by your peers is an honor," said Hostrawser. "The opportunity to represent LaVille on this stage is something that speaks to all the hard work put forth by all the players and coaching involved in our football program - from the youth leagues through the varsity team. I was just the person lucky enough to get the opportunity to be the face of our program. We all have worked tremendously hard to put a product on the field every single Friday Night that expects to win ball games no matter who the opponent is across the field from us. We all have a part in that - and getting the opportunity to be a part of the North/South game shows the respect we have earned from others in our state. All of our team members and coaches realize that respect is important and must be earned each and every single day. When hard work is consistently put forth bycoaches and players alike, opportunities for our program to be recognized in unique areas will occur. The IFCA North/South All-Star game is such an opportunity." The 10th year LaVille coach was also impressed by the staff and players as they moved from meeting to meeting and practice to practice throughout the four-day event. "The knowledge and speed of play was evident right off the bat," said Hostrawser. "The "second unit" was not really a "second unit." Most of the guys were going on to play small college football - so they were very motivated to play at a high level. All the players knew football and it showed on the field. They grasp new concepts very fast and were very coachable. It was unique because we had 2 full offensive units, 2 full defensive units and a kicker as well as a punter. It was unique for me because I am not used to practicing with that many guys on the team." According to the LaVille boss, he coached the inside linebackers all week. He was also one of four coaches who assisted in calling the North defense. Hostrawser was one of 10 North staff members announced during the on-field pre-game festivities. "I was one of the last ones to be announced - so honestly I wanted to get off the field and get to playing the game!" concluded Hostrawser. "To be fair - those kinds of moments do not resonate with me. Competing during a game is where it's at for me - that's when preparation meets opportunity - it's the essence of coaching. I got butterflies like I always do right before kick-off. It was different being in charge of one position group on the sideline as was the opportunity to talk to just the inside linebackers while we were on offense. At our level, most guys don't come off the field and you have to coach 'em up during the breaks." The South came away with a 14-0 victory over the North in the Murat Shrine North-South Football Classic. The event was held at Indianapolis Ben Davis High School.
