Girls Track Uses Depth To Defend Championship

LAKEVILLE, IN. - Using a nice balance throughout each event, the girls track and field team scored 93 points to edge out a field of five other teams to win the Lancer Relays. LaVille picked up three event championships, while also finishing second five times and third four times. The Lancers also scored 39 points in field events to go with 54 points in the running events to defend their 2022 title. In the running events, the group of Jorryn Zellers, Mikalah Kuskye, Jessica Keb and Brooke Edison won the distance medley relay. Also picking up a blue ribbon was the 3200m relay team of Myra Garcia, Ragen Wagoner, Edison and Keb. Over in the field events, Madison Singleton and Myra Garcia combined to win the pole vault. Coach Erin Ecker's team picked up big points from three solid seconds in the long jump, discus and shot put. The Lancers also grabbed points by tying for third in the high jump. LaVille outscored its closest competition - John Glenn - by a 39-31 margin in the field events. A pair of running event groups helped the LaVille cause, picking up points for second in the shuttle hurdle relay and the 400m relay.
