Boys Track And Field Headed To Regional

WARSAW, IN. - The LaVille Boys Track and Field team will participate in the Warsaw Regional on May 25.Field events and the 3200 relay are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Tiger Athletic Complex on the campus of Warsaw High School. Running trials are set for 6:30 p.m, with the running finals at 7:20 p.m.The top three in each regional event and relay plus any individual or relay team meeting the 3 Participant Standard in the regional finals of their event will advance to the state finals at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex, Indiana University, Bloomington on June 2. AJ Bedock, Erik Bedock, Lincoln Hulsey, Noah Richhart, Matthew Schaefer and Owen Smith will represent LaVille in four different events. Lancer field events have been solid in 2023 and have a goal of competing in the IHSAA State Finals.Five of coach Kathe Beehler's crew are returning participants in the regional round.Smith, Hulsey, Schaefer, AJ and Erik Bedock have valuable time at the next level."They all competed at regionals last year," said Beehler. "So they have some experience with this meet! Figuring out how to handle the adrenaline at this meet is key! Channeling it into their performance in a positive way to help get them to the state meet!" Hulsey is a #2 seed in pole vault after a 14' leap at the sectional. Schaeffer is ninth following a 12' effort.In the discus, Erik Bedock is a third seed after a 149' toss. AJ is just six inches behind brother Erik after a 148'4" mark and checks in fourth.Noah Richhart is a fourth seed after a 49'5.5" shot put at sectional.  Erik Bedock comes in seeded fifth with a qualifying distance 49'4.75".Smith, who has qualified as a sprinter, has taken to the 300m hurdles. The senior speedster owns a school record 40.32 and earned a second seed."It was a great night!" Beehler said after the sectional performance. "They have had solid performances all season long! They have been working really hard and they are seeing the results of that. We know they all have more performances like that in them! Based on sectional performances, top-seeded athletes in the four respective events that involve LaVille competitors are:*300 hurdles - Luke Kaufhold (Saint Joseph) 39.65*Discus - Trenton Bias (Elkhart) 153'11"*Pole Vaults - Morgan Johnson (Warsaw) 14'4"*Shot Put - Rae'Kwon Lemons (Elkhart) 53'7". "They have all gotten better as the season goes on and that is what the goal is," explained Beehler. "Be at your peak at the end of the season during the state tournament. Seeing competitors that will push them to get better!" FIELD EVENTS: The shot put, long jump, and discus throw will be allowed three (3) tries and the nine (9) qualifiers that advance to the finals will have three (3) additional tries. Long jump will run open pit style. TIMING: Finish Lynx Timing Systems will be used as main and backup timing systems.
