WABASH, IN. - It was a pitcher's duel between Bremen's Baylor Orcutt and LaVille's Lucas Plummer in the 2A Sectional #36 semifinal. Orcutt was four over the minimum through five innings, while Plummer was just three over the minimum. The difference was one unearned run with two outs in the top of the second that put Bremen on top, 1-0. Plummer struck out three, with one walk and was the beneficiary of a double play that ended the top of the second for the Lions. Orcutt, meanwhile, registered nine strikeouts, hit a batter and got out of a jam when LaVille put runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the fourth.  Orcutt survived that would-be Lancer rally with a pair of strikeouts. Then the momentum shifted. Bremen used six walks, a LaVille error and a timely 2-RBI single to right field to score one earned run, but four runs in the inning to take a 5-0 lead. "We were right there going into the sixth inning," Lawler said after watching the Lions send 10 batters to the plate in the top of the sixth inning. "Then they were able to get some runs across due to walks." LaVille's Collin Czarnecki started the Lancer portion of the sixth inning off with a double to left field. After a pop out and strikeout, Ross Wagoner was hit by a pitch, sending Brayden Schwitz to the plate. The freshman singled to right field, scoring Czarnecki, but Wagoner was thrown out for the the final out of the inning. Alex Summers started the bottom of the seventh off with a walk and made his way to third base on a one-out single to right by Andre Gonzales.  LaVille, however, was unable to push anyone home as the game closed on a fly ball to center field. Orcutt finished the game with 10 strikeouts and three hits to pick up the win on the bump. "It's always tough when the season ends," said Lawler. "We will miss this senior class." LaVille will graduate four in June - Konner Quinn, Noah Rush, Summers, and Wagoner. LaVille finished the season with a 13-16 overall record.
