LAKEVILLE, IN. - LaVille's Lauren Edison has signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Bethel University. When Edison picks up her diploma on June 4, she walks across the stage as LaVille's Salutatorian for the Class of 2023. She also finished an athletic career with 10 varsity letters. She earned a varsity letter in cross country, before moving over to soccer her final three years. Edison also earned three letters in basketball and three in track and field. "I decided to go to Bethel because they were very personal and cared about my future," Edison said when asked about her college choice. " Whether I chose to attend their school or not." As Edison closes the door on high school, she is most appreciative of the opportunity to be a student-athlete at LaVille. "Being a three-sport athlete at LaVille has been rewarding," Edison said when asked about playing sports. "It has allowed me to participate in something during my free time, as well as make lots of friendships and memories with my peers that I wouldn't have otherwise got." Edison also reflected on her time wearing the Lancer royal blue and white. "To wear a Lancer uniform was an honor because it meant that I was representing our school," explained Edison. "Whenever wearing a uniform I tried my hardest to be respectful and kind because my actions reflected off of the LaVille name." Included in some of her athletic memories was being on the 2022-23 basketball team that won the TCU Bi-County Basketball Tournament. It was the first TCU Bi-County Basketball title for LaVille Lady Hoops since 1993. "Being at LaVille has brought many memories," she said. "But one of the top memories for me was winning TCU Bi-County my senior year in basketball. It was super exciting to be a part of a team that worked so hard and was finally able to accomplish a goal, together as one." Edison has had success on the track in hurdle events. Just some of her accomplishments include 2021 Hoosier North Athletic Conference 100M Hurdle champion. Then back-to-back HNAC champ in the 300M Hurdles in 2022 and 2023. Edison continues to plan on running hurdles at Bethel. "I am going to attend Bethel to play collegiate track and field which is such a great opportunity," said Edison. "I will be able to learn new techniques for the hurdles, meet new people, and create friendships that will hopefully last a lifetime." She has so many memories of her coaches and seeing her work pay dividends. "The thing that I will remember most about my LaVille track and field career was the coaches pushing us to our potential, truly wanting the best for us," said Edison, who plans to study Nursing at Bethel. "It was really rewarding to see our hard work pay off as we won different events like Lancer Relays, as well as Dennis Rippy and HNAC Conference my junior year. "Being an athlete at LaVille in Lancer Nation has been such a cool experience because of the tight knit community LaVille has to offer," concluded Edison. "We all support one another, and as an athlete I know a lot of people want my team to succeed. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career at LaVille. It has been extremely memorable, and I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything in the world."
