INDIANAPOLIS, IN. - Over the last few weeks, LaVille's Erik Bedock has made consistent improvements. After winning the Indiana High School Athletic Association sectional and regional discus titles, the junior continues to parepe in preparation for the state meet. Bedock showed that LaVille has a strong throwers program. "I definitely was proud of myself," Bedock said after winning the regional discus with a toss of 151 feet, 6 inches and placing second in shot put after a 50' 9.25" effort. "You know, winning discus and qualifying in shot at the state meet, that's nice. But there is still room to improve in all my throws. I'm glad I made it, but I'm hoping to outperform myself at state." Bedock spent the week preparing in the warmer than average temperatures in northern Indiana. In fact, the weather was more like August and the early football days than late-May or early-June. "It's definitely been a little different," Bedock said after a late week practice. "We haven't had to throw in these types of conditions all year. Just staying hydrated, making that a major importance. And getting acclimated to the temperatures. I have to chalk-up so the shot doesn't slip with the sweat on my neck. All things I need to take into account for for Friday. He is seeded 26th at the state meet after his runner up throw of 50' 9.25" at the Warsaw Regional. Luke Himes of Heritage Christian is the top seed following his 62' 7" effort. The Lancer junior checks in a 27th seed in the discus at the state finals following a career-best 151' 6" in the regional round. Seamus Malaski of Crown Points is the #1 seed after a 179' toss. "To be honest, getting in the top 10 could be a little of a stretch considering how good these throwers are," Bedock said when asked what it might take for a shot at the top 10. "I think overall my goal for both events is top 20. Overall just being down there is a good experience. See what works and what doesn't. See what other people are doing. Learn from it. It will all help me as I continue to progress as a thrower." Bedock would really like to PR in both thrower events at IU. His goal in the shot is a 52 or 53 foot mark. In the discus, he would like to get around 155'. As we closed our interview, we asked Erik about how special it is to have the chance to represent LaVille and the Lancer Track and Field program. "It's really special because you know we are a small school," concluded Bedock. "There's probably going to be people there who don't know who we are. It's fun to go down there and show everyone what we are about and how we have a really strong throwers program here. We almost had two others as qualifiers with Noah Richhart and AJ (Bedock)."
