LAKEVILLE - As LaVille head football coach Jeff Kaiser works his way through the 2023 Indiana High School Athletic Association summer moratorium week, we were able to catch up with the new Lancer boss. Kaiser gave us a progress report on Lancer Football since he was hired February 13, 2023. "Things have been going well to this point of summer workouts and our football nights," explained the first-year LaVille  coach.  "The entire staff feels that we have been getting better each day as we prepare for the upcoming season. "Numbers to this point have been good, we know a couple of the younger guys haven't made the total commitment yet, but for those that have they have seen solid progress in conditioning and strength." From hitting the weight room, to cardio workouts and football nights, Kaiser and the football staff have been working toward the fall LaVille football season."Football nights are nights where we get the entire team and staff together and work on the fundamentals and details at each position, while also developing a connection with the incoming freshman and new players to see a glimpse of how we do things," Kaiser explained about what football night is at LaVille.  "We have install sessions for all three phases of the game that allows us to get a start on things before we start regular season practice. Guys are taking things in very well and the sense of excitement grows amongst us all daily as we get closer to season." The preseason workouts are crucial to the strength, speed development, and stamina for each player."Our ultimate goal of our preseason workouts is to get in the best shape mentally and physically," says Kaiser. "which in turn we hope will help prevent injuries once we start the physical contact on a daily basis.  Preseason workouts also allow us to build trust with players and coaches from top to bottom of our program.  Again, our goal as a staff is to get everyone to understand the basic fundamentals and to install our "BASIC" packages in all three phases of the game.  Once the players understand the basics it will allow them to be more confident and a confident football player is able to play to their best ability constantly."  Once hired, Kaiser put together his football staff, put together off-season workout dates and times, along with a youth summer camp."Our youth camp went VERY well!!!" exclaimed Kaiser.  "We had 18 campers experience the fundamentals of football, with the emphasis of having fun while doing so.  We set up stations (blocking, catching, throwing and running) with each station lasting 18 minutes to allow them time to get comfortable in understanding the basics in technique, while also allowing each to participate in drills.  I believe each camper surprised themselves and found success in some way by being able to "TRY" each drill."We selected 10 of our current varsity players to be the hands on instructors and coaches," continued Kaiser.  "They planned and put together the drills based on their specific position and previous experience in doing them daily at practice, which allowed them to be comfortable in doing so.  This created an immediate connection with the older guys and the campers.  We were also fortunate to have Jamie Bettcher - current LB's coach with the Cincinnati Bengals and LaVille Football Alumni - speak to our campers on the second day about the game of football . . . This was an honor to say the least!" So far, the start of the Kaiser-era as LaVille football coach has started like he wanted."To me this was exactly how I envisioned how I wanted things to go back when I interviewed for the Head Coach position," continued Kaiser.  "Program interaction from our High School down to our Youth programs and what a better way than to have them interacting and performing on the field together." According to Kaiser, the Lancer football team will travel to Wawasee High School on July 20 to participate in a "THUD" scrimmage which is a scrimmage that is non contact that allows you to see different teams and packages. "This allows us to get on film and evaluate where we are at up to this point as far as alignment, angles and speed of the game," said Kaiser.  "Schools that we will be facing are Wawasee, Norwell and Fort Wayne Wayne."All the action starts at 5:30 p.m at Wawasee High School in Syracuse, Indiana.  With the season-opener August 18 at Bremen inside six weeks away, Kaiser feels like things are headed in the right direction."Things have been going good," said Kaiser.  "I am surrounded by a solid and committed coaching staff, players that know what our expectations are, and lastly having parents that respect the expectation and sacrifice it takes to put ourselves in a position to be successful.  "THE LANCER WAY""The rest of the summer we will continue with our strength and conditioning circuits, along with football nights which we will continue emphasizing the fundamentals along with install sessions for all three phases of the game"
