LAKEVILLE - WHME TV-46 has announced the first portion of its 2023 high school football broadcast schedule. LaVille at Bremen will help kick off the 34th season for the South Bend-based Family Broadcasting Corporation. The neighborhood rivalry will be played at Don J. Bunge Field on Friday, August 18. Kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. This will be LaVille's fourth appearance on TV-46 since 2003 and are 3-0 thus far. Bremen leads the all-time series, 39-14, but the Lancers have won the last six straight in the series. The last BHS victory at Bunge Field was a 38-7 decision in Will Hostrawser's first season as head coach on September 27, 2013. LaVille went 6-1 against Bremen during the Hostrawser-era as the 10-year Lancer boss. Hostrawser concluded his run with a 79-33 overall record, the 2023 Hoosier North Athletic Conference title and two sectional championships. For first-year LaVille coach Jeff Kaiser, it is an 'honor' to be selected for the TV-46 Game of the Week. "This is always an honor for our program and community to be selected to be the "Premier" Game of the week," explained Kaiser. "I feel it's a tribute to our guys and the hard work they put in daily. "Being on TV always brings an extra level of excitement not only to our players but the entire Lancer Nation. With that being said, our approach in preparing for the game doesn't change and we can not let this be a distraction through the process. This is a great opportunity for us to show what this team will offer throughout the season!" As the Bremen-LaVille series turns 54 in 2023, Kaiser knows very well about this tradition. "It's no secret that Bremen vs. LaVille has deep roots as far as rivalry goes," said Kaiser, who was promoted from defensive coordinator following the 2022 season. "Players know each other . . . Parents know each other. It's the first game of the year so each program wants to get things going with a win. The atmosphere no matter if we are playing over there or if it's at our place is intense. This type of game being a rivalry and being next door neighbors sort of speak, is what Friday Night Football is all about! They want to beat us just as bad as we want to beat them. They are just as excited as we are for this opportunity. I can assure you of that." Not only will Bremen and LaVille be excited, the broadcast team of Chuck Freeby, Bo Hundt, and Angelo Di Carlo are pumped to bring the action. "We are always excited about the start of the season, and especially to feature this 'small school rivalry,'" said WHME TV46 sports director Chuck Freeby. "LaVille has been as good as any of our small schools in recent years, and they're a story with Coach (Jeff) Kaiser taking over. "Bremen has such a tradition, especially with Coach (Don) Bunge turning 100," continued the hall of fame broadcaster. "Not to mention you have two experienced quarterbacks returning. We expect this to be a great kickoff to our 34th TV-46 season!" The WHME TV-46 Game of the Week can be seen at 11 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. Come join the excitement, then go home and watch the coverage!
