LAKEVILLE - The 2022 LaVille football season was one for the record books. An undefeated regular season. First Hoosier North Athletic Conference title. A 10-win season, the third in school football history and first since 2016.That was last year. Time to move forward. Now as quarterback Lucas Plummer and his Lancer teammates work during the two-a-day portion of the camp schedule, one thing is very clear. Crystal clear. "We definitely have the mentality to defend the conference championship from last year," says the veteran quarterback heading into 2023.  "We have a lot of pressure after having one of the greatest seasons that LaVille has ever had. We lost a lot (to graduation), but we also have a lot back (this season). It is a lot of pressure, but we are ready for it." Following a few no-pad days to start camp, the two-a-day grind has kicked in. That's when an early morning practice opens the day before a late afternoon session to close the day out.  In between, there is time to go home, eat, hydrate and recharge the batteries for the second session of the day. "Got here early, a 7:30 a.m. start," explained Plummer.  "Got some stretching in. Got some conditioning in.  Then we worked on offensive groups, started out pretty good on team offense.Worked on some old stuff and new stuff.  Then more conditioning.  Worked on special teams.  We kind of slowed down on special teams, but ended on a good note." Plummer is in his fourth year as QB for LaVille, while also playing defense, punting and performing PAT and field goal duties. The 6' 3" 190 pound three-sport athlete doesn't spend much time on the football sidelines."I kind of play a little bit of everywhere," said Plummer.  "It is a lot but I like it. I'm ready for it. I'll do whatever the team needs. "QB, it's a lot mentally.  You have to know everything.  But I enjoy it. I have developed a lot since my freshman year." Now that football camp has moved into its second week, Plummer and the other seniors are working to bring their younger teammates along. "We've all played together since elementary school," Plummer said when asked about his senior teammates.  "We all know each other, we are good friends and we are good leaders to help the young ones out. "The expectation is to get better every practice and every game. Try to help everyone around you to have that same mentality." There are some goals already in mind for the 2023 edition of Lancer Football. "We want to win against Bremen #1," noted the LaVille signal caller.  "We want to win the conference again and hopefully sectionals and further than that." Plummer heads into his senior year with a completion rate of .502 percent.  He also has 32 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions.  He is coming off his best season in completion percentage at just over 57%.  His longest completion is 74 yards his freshman year. He closed the 2021 season on the IFCA All-State football team as a punter.  He also started the 2023 campaign as a pre-season Indiana Football Digest team as an all-state punter. "It's kind of cool to see my name around," Plummer humbly said. "Honestly, I don't pay too much attention to that.  I just want to go out and have fun. It is definitely exciting.  I am ready to prove that I am all-state." For now, though, Plummer and the rest of the LaVille team are working hard each practice and work to get a little bit better each day. "It's been good so far," Plummer said when asked how this were going so far.  "The younger kids are stepping up pretty good so far and getting the hang of everything.  They are getting into the flow of everything.  That's important as we start off here is to get acclimated to what we are going to do." Plummer is a dual threat from the QB spot.  He can run the ball when needed and has just over 770 career rushing yards to go with 16 TD runs. His longest run from scrimmage is 57 yards in 2022.
