LAKEVILLE - It's GAMEDAY in Lakeville! The LaVille boys basketball team is set to open the 2025-26 season in a non-conference game against Westville on November 26. The junior varsity is scheduled for a 6:30pm tip, with the varsity to follow. Westville brings an 0-1 overall record to Lakeville, following a 56-43 loss to Highland on November 24. Briar Nimtz led the Blackhawks with 18 points, including 13 in the second half. Cooper Hansen added seven points and Alex Massengill chipped in with six points for Westville. "Westville has already played Highland two nights ago so they at least have one game under their belt," said LaVille coach Michael Edison when asked what he knows about Westville. "Number 10 (Wyatt Oberle), number 12 (Briar Nimtz), and number 14 (Alex Massengill) were their three primary scorers in the first game. All three of them are guards." Edison's club is a bit behind due to the success of the Lancer football team this fall. "Since we got our football players about a week after other teams started practicing, I feel a little bit behind, but the time has come for our first game so we will get out there and see how well we perform," explained the Lancer boss. "There are just so many things to put in at the beginning of a season." Among returning players for the Lancers are seniors Travis Madondo, Andre Gonzales, Aaron Keb, Ryan Maenhout, and Braedyn Foster, along with junior Lance Edison. Newcomers to the varsity roster are juniors Cameron Brown and Caleb Skiles. Sophomore Griffen Smith and a pair of freshmen in Jonny Yoder and Liam Amor complete the early-season varsity roster. Several of these players will share time on the JV and varsity roster to open the season. When asked about key elements for LaVille in the opener, Edison said, "Taking care of the ball and not turning it over will be a key tonight. Also good one on one defense where we don't allow players to drive right around us is another big key. The third key is being patient and taking high-quality shots." We had some time to chat with Coach Edison for a LaVille Basketball season preview, which is coming soon!
