PRAIRIE HEIGHTS PANTHERS Coach Patrick McCrea's team made great strides in 2021. The Panthers finished 4-7 overall, the most wins since McCrea took over in 2016. McCrea's club must reload after the graduation of several key components.  Among those picking up their diplomas were Luke Severe, Sam Levitz, Camden Hall, Hunter Allen, Devin McGloughlin, Colton Penick, Bailey Robinson, Dakota Butler and Cody Melson.  Severe will be a crucial cog to replace after directing the offense from the quarterback chair.  The 2022 graduate was 84-of-163 for 769 yards, 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.   Hall was the second-leading rusher toting the ball for 572 yards (5.1 average) and 11 touchdowns. Hunter Allen was near the top of a long list of those with quarterback sacks with four.  The defense picked up 20.5 sacks in 2021. Levitz added 340 yards and a 4.6 yards per carry average from the backfield.  This season, the Panthers expect the return of several skill players from the 2021 roster, including running backs Jaden Daniels and Phillip Sheets. Meanwhile, younger players will need to step up on the offensive and defensive lines if the Panthers want to keep the momentum going. Jaden Daniels did a little bit of everything in 2021.  He led the Panthers with 1,168 all-purpose yards - including 583 yards rushing, 223 yards receiving and 38 tackles - and 12 TDs.  He added nine rushing TDs and two receiving scores. Also back are Phillip Sheets, a 5-foot-9 middle linebacker and running back, along with Lincoln Booth, a 6-foot, 225-pounder who added 44 tackles.  With Severe gone to graduation, expect to see Trenton Daniels under center.  As a junior, Daniels completed one pass for 38 yards in limited play. The offensive line is likely to see just one senior to start the season.  Barring a preseason injury, McCrea's team may go with Booth, juniors Jesus Flores and Wade McCrea, and sophomore center Kris Levitz. The Panthers run a 'Gun-T' offensive attack that averaged 145 yards rushing and 75 yards passing a year ago.  On the defensive side of the ball, Prairie Heights runs a '3-4', which allowed 28.5 points per game last season. Booth, sophomore Holden Schlegel, senior Caleb Manprasert and senior Phillips Sheets are key players. The secondary could consist of sophomore Robert Kicks, Wade McCrea, Jaden Daniels, and Trenton Daniels.McCrea and his staff will be on the lookout for a kicker, punter, long-snapper, and punt and kickoff return positions.
