ARGOS - Managing a lop-sided score isn't always easy. Many coaches try to help guide their players no matter what side of the scoreboard the team is on. Tuesday night both LaVille coach Michael Edison and Argos coach Nick Kindig took key roles in helping to direct their respective teams as the Lancers left Phil Weybright Gymnasium with a respectful 56-18 victory over the Dragons. "Argos had several of their key kids that were out due to different circumstances," noted the Lancer coach. "With that being said, losing 4 of their starters proved difficult for them. I thought our guys came out and played hard for the entire game. I was especially pleased with the guys later in the game as they did not get sloppy and ran our offense extremely well." LHS got off to a quick start with its full-court pressure defense, using its quickness to create steals, blocks, and transition baskets early. Edison's crew played aggressive defense and were able to jump out a 13-0 lead after the first quarter. That lead ballooned to 34-6 by halftime, and with just under three minutes left in the third quarter, the LaVille advantage reached 35 points that resulted in a running clock for the duration of the game. LaVille shot nearly 50-percent from the field and produced 18 assists on 19 made field goals. Defensively, Edison's crew forced 24 Dragon turnovers, picked up 12 steals, blocked five shots, and outrebounded Argos by more than double. "We had several guys play extremely well: Braedyn Foster played great defense and was active on the boards, Andre (Gonzales) & Travis (Madondo) played excellent 1 on 1 defense, Lance (Edison) was able to get going offensively and finished around the hoop, Liam (Amor) played key minutes as a starter, and Ryan Maenhout played extremely hard, just like he always does," explained Edison. "I was also elated that Aaron Keb took 2 charges during the game. He did a great job coming off the bench and playing with confidence. Our guys played extremely well and played hard the entire game." Junior Lancer Edison led all scorers with 20 points. Braedyn Foster had 11 points, 8 rebounds, and five steals. Maenhout stuffed his stat line with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Melchi Austin led the Argos offense with 10 points and 4 rebounds. LaVille, now 3-1 overall, returns to the conference wars on December 13.
