LaVille Lady Hoops Fall To Kalamazoo Central

THREE OAKS, MICH. – LaVille Lady Hoops traveled to Three Oaks, Michigan over the weekend to participate in the 1st Michiana Hoops Shootout at River Valley High School. LHS battled throughout the game before falling 51-32 to Kalamazoo Central, Michigan, at River Valley High School. Senior Faith Mejer continues to be a threat both in scoring and rebounding. Mejer led all scorers with 21 points, including four 3-point field goals. Four other players got in the scoring column, while Denni Markin corralled 13 rebounds for the Lancers. The loss drops LaVille to 3-10 overall following a weekend split. LHS defeated Indiana Northern State Conference rival Knox 38-25 on Friday. HOW IT HAPPENED LaVille came into Saturday's Michiana Hoops Shootout as a big underdog to the Lady Giants, even though Kalamazoo Central had not won a game to start the season. KC had lost its first two games by a total of six points with a young, physical team. Thanks in part from 14 of the Lancer 20 first-half points by Mejer, LaVille led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter and 20-18 at halftime. Mejer connected on three 3-pointers and picked up a steal and assist to Ava Weil that gave LaVille a 15-11 lead just before halftime. They also trailed just 33-31 to start the fourth period before the Lady Giants found its shooting beyond the arc. The Lady Giants went on a 11-0 run, knocking down three 3-pointers that turned a single-possession game into a double-digit advantage for Kalamazoo Central. LAVILLE NOTES *The Lancers are 2-2 so far in December, with three games this week before the Winter Break. *LaVille is averaging 34 points per game and are 3-3 so far this season when scoring 34 or more points. *All three of LaVille's wins have come by at least 10 points. *LHS has recorded 10 or more steals in 21-of-33 games over the past two seasons.
