LAKEVILLE - For the second time in two weeks, LaVille and Triton went head-to-head on the basketball court. This time it was the quarterfinal round of the 61st everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament with a trip to the semifinals on the line. The two clubs met on January 6 in Bourbon, with the Trojans escaping with a 42-37 overtime victory. "I felt our defense at times was really good against Triton the first time around," Edison said of the 42-37 OT loss just two weeks ago. "They did not shoot the best and definitely are capable of shooting better. It will be a very tough matchup for us once again. We need to focus on getting high percentage shots and taking care of the ball." Tuesday, 2A #6 Triton used effective long range shooting, then took advantage of solid ball movement in transition to build its lead. LHS led by two possessions early, but a 13-0 run followed by a 22-7 spurt helped the Trojans pull away for a 66-45 victory. Bremen will now face Triton in the boys' semifinal round of the everwise Bi-County Tournament January 23 at LaVille High School. "I think we had a 10–5 lead and from there they went on about an 18-0 run," said Lancer coach Michael Edison. "Triton played very good defense, and it is tough to come back from a deficit like that against a very good team! We had some good looks in the first and second quarter and just couldn't knock them down. In the second half when we were pressing more, they ended up getting easy laps because they can handle the ball and pass so well." LaVIlle was led by Andre Gonzales with 12 points. Braedyn Foster finished with 11 points and finished off a double-double with 12 boards. Leading scorer Lance Edison was held to just six points. "They played very good one-on-one defense on Lance and really limited his opportunities," Edison explained when asked about Triton's effort on defense. "Unfortunately, some nights are like that. We need to regroup and refocus and get ready for a tough New Prairie team." The Lancers move to 9-6 overall and will face New Prairie in the January 23 consolation at 8pm. Bremen improved to 10-2. 61st everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament Varsity Boys Triton 66 LaVille 45 Score By Quarters Triton 17 19 10 20 - 66 LaVille 10 7 5 17 - 45 Triton - Landon Patrick 4, Jamison Swanson 8, Julian Swanson 14, Jauden Overmyer 14, Isaac Quintana 4, Gage Riffle 4, Brady Wood 18.
