LAKEVILLE - The opening night of the 51st Indiana High School Athletic Association state girls basketball tournament games ended up as predicted. Winamac and Knox picked up wins at the Class 2A Sectional #34 hosted by LaVille High School at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. Coach Tony Stesiak's team used a solid overall performance and cruised past Career Academy South Bend, 77-25. The Warriors move on to the semifinals against the host Lancers on February 6 at 6pm. A trio of players scored in double figures to lead the way - Kandace Kroft and Marissa Iverson each scored a game-high 21 points, while teammate Sadie Popejoy added 19 - as the Warriors improved to 18-6 overall.  Knox is one of the best overall 3-point shooting teams in the nation, led by Kroft, who is nearing 100 3-pointers made this season. In the nightcap, Knox jumped out quickly, then held off Jimtown's second half push for a 38-27 victory.  The Redskins will now face 2A #7 Bremen in the second semifinal February 6 immediately following the Winamac-LaVille game. The Redskins started fast, taking a 25-6 halftime lead. The Jimmies outscored KHS in the second half 21-13, but the deficit was too much.  Riley Taylor had a game-high 13 points, while Jayla Patrick chipped in with 12.  Kiera Jackson had eight, Annabelle Lee six, and Kamryn Williams six for Jimtown.
