LAKEVILLE - As the calendar turns toward the middle of February, the final handful of high school basketball games are sure to help find the end of the conference season. On Friday, February 13, GAMEDAY is set for Tippecanoe Valley and LaVille to help close the Indiana Northern State Conference games of the season. Though both teams enter at 2-2 in loop play, both the Vikings and Lancers still have much to play for, and conference placement is one of them. "Tippecanoe Valley plays with a lot of energy," said LaVille coach Michael Edison. "They crash the boards extremely hard, will play a man-to-man defense and they will press some with really good traps at different times throughout the game." The Vikings lead the series, 10-5. We had the chance to ask Coach Edison about key players his club needs to keep track of during the game. "(Owen) Omondi is their best player as he is very athletic, can slash to the basket and is very active on the boards," noted 18th-year Lancer coach. "He is someone we must have an eye on at all times. (Wes) Parker, (Hudson) Shepherd, and (William) Mellott are all seniors and have a lot of leadership ability and are solid players for them. They have a couple of guys who are above average outside shooters and they will push the ball up the court if they have the opportunity. They are definitely a team that plays extremely hard, crashes the boards, and plays with a lot of energy." According to Coach Edison, Tippecanoe Valley has a nice balance of being patient when they need to and also being willing to push the ball if it presents itself to do so. They have 2-3 shooters that we must keep under control and we need to box out really well on every possession. Tippy Valley is 7-11 overall following a 59-54 victory over West Central. Edison feels some keys to a LaVille victory include - "Protecting the paint, rebounding on both ends of the court, defensive pressure." All three February 13 INSC contests will determine the final placement of the six teams. Jimtown at Bremen helps decide the conference champion. Tippecanoe Valley at LaVille determines third and fourth place, and Knox at John Glenn figures out the final two placements. LaVille is 12-7 after a 53-48 win at West Noble on Feb 7. Let's play ...
