GIRLS SOCCER Lakeville - The girls soccer team scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the match and defeated North Miami 4-0 at Newton Park. Mikalah Kuskye and London Kwiatkowski netted two goals each. Kuskye and Mackena Deason added one assist each as LaVille improved to 6-1 overall. Shafer's club outshot the Warriors 15-2 and Denni Markin and the Lancer defense earned the second shutout of the season. Coach Brandon Shafer's ISCA #16-ranked team will meet Elkhart on September 9. The match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at Newton Park. The Lions were 2-3 overall heading into a Northern Indiana Conference mat against 3A #6 Penn on September 6. Cox Gymnasium. In the junior varsity match, LaVille defeated Bremen, 2-0. Early on, it looked like LaVille might make quick work of the Lions, jumping off to a 2-0 advantage. The net attack was hitting on all cylinders for the Lancers as they picked up nine kills and a couple of stuff blocks in the first set. A service game that was just as effective picked up 11 aces in game one. Game two was much of the same as LaVille controlled the net game with 11 kills and a couple more blocks. Bremen nipped LHS 26-24 in game three, then snuck past the Lancers 25-18 to force a fifth-set. Coach Pat Gring's club got off to a fast start, bolting to a 5-1 lead after Reagan Bollenbacher picked up a kill. Keeping the pressure on, LaVille used a pair of five-point runs to close out a convincing 15-6 win in the final set. A pair of aces by Elaina Borton and a kill by Kate Aschenbrenner sealed the 'W'. LaVille improved to 6-12 overall and will return to Hoosier North Athletic Conference play on Monday, September 11 against Winamac. The junior varsity match is scheduled to serve at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow inside Clox Gymnasium. In the seventh grade match, LaVille lost 2-0 to the Bobcats. Bella Higley served 6 points (4 aces) and Abby Nace followed with 5 points (3 aces). Savannah Wagner led in passing with 14 followed by Rozz Woolridge with 8. Higley had a kill for LaVille. On the eighth grade side, the Lancers suffered a 2-0 setback to OD. Both junior high team's return to action on Thursday, Sept. 7. The seventh grade match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, followed by the eighth grade. From the September 5 Lincoln JH match: Lincoln 2, LaVille 0 Rozz Woolridge led in passing with 9 followed by Savannah Wagner and Violet Wheeler with 6 each. Savannah Wagner and Rozz Woolridge each had an ace.
