LAKEVILLE - The LaVille baseball team played host to a triple-double in high school action Saturday at Newton Park. LHS opened the day against the Squires in what turned out to be a barn burner. It ended in heart-breaking fashion as LHS lost the lead late in a 10-9 setback. LaVille captured the lead, 6-4, in the B2 after Asa Coplen singled, Christy doubled, and Brayden Schwitz doubled, each scoring two runs. After Manchester scored two in the top of the eighth, LHS scratched two across in the B7. Braedyn Foster came up with a big RBI single to tie the game at 9-9. Manchester's Keston Poe came up with the game-winning single in the top of the ninth inning. Lancer freshman Kyler Christy led the offense with three hits, including a double. In Saturday's second contest for LaVille, Caston was a bit more effective in the middle innings and erupted for four big runs in the top of the seventh to take a 11-6 victory over the Lancers. Braedyn Foster drove in four runs on three hits to lead the LHS offense. Foster helped LaVille open a 3-0 lead. Foster doubled to score two runs, while Asa Coplen singled in a run. A Gavin Mollenkopf homer got Caston back in the game before a two-run double by Eli Holloway gave the Comets the lead. LaVille (0-3) returns to the diamond on April 14 against Elkhart Christian Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 530pm at Newton Park.
