GIRLS SOCCER The 1A #19-ranked girls soccer team played host to Logansport at Newton Park. Coach Brandon Shafer's club defeated the Berries 4-0 on senior night. Both teams battled for much of the half, before junior a foul was called inside the box. LaVille's Mackena Deason was awarded a penalty kick and netted the first goal of the match as she beat Logansport goalie Natalee Packard's diving attempt. Just over four minutes later, a corner kick was launched for LaVille toward the net. Several players gathered around the ball. As the ball bounced off several players, Brooke Edison was in the right place at the right time to tap in a shot as LHS took a 2-0 lead at the 33rd minute mark. In the second half, Mikalah Kuskye was able to break away and send a shot to the frame. The juniors shot was true as LaVille increased its lead to 3-0 at the 46th minute. It looked like Logansport might crack the scoring column as a shot was rocketed toward the goal. The shot curved away from LaVille goalie Denni Markin and hit squarely on the right upright and bounded away. Kuskye put the game out of reach late in the match. She attacked the right side, dribbling inside the penalty box and as she attempted a cross over, was fouled. The Lancer junior successfully converted the PK for a 4-0 LaVille lead. Shafer's team improved to 8-2-2 overall and will continue a busy week with two more matches. LaVille will travel to Culver Community (9-2-1) on September 20 for a 5:30 p.m. match. The Lancers own a 7-0-1 lead in recent history. In 2022, the two teams played to a 3-3 tie. Saturday, LHS will travel to John Glenn (6-4 before 9.21 match against Trinity Greenlawn) for a 12 p.m. kick.
