Football Closes HNAC With Senior Night Against Culver

LAKEVILLE - It's a football night in Lakeville! After a thrilling 23-2o victory at North Judson-San Pierre last week, Class 2A #5 LaVille will play host to Culver Community for a 7 p.m. kick as the 2023 campaign comes to the end of the regular season. The game can also be heard on Max 98.3FM and watched by clicking https://www.ihsaatv.org/?B=587153, part of the IHSAA Champions Network. Following an exciting win over a talented Blue Jay squad, LHS stayed near the top of the Hoosier North football standings. LaVille is the defending champion and, with a victory over the Cavaliers and a loss by Knox to Caston, would invoke a tie between the Lancers and the Redskins. "What impressed me the most on both sides of the ball is again, our total team effort and desire to get a big win on the road," LaVille coach Jeff Kaiser said following the road victory. "We had guys step up and respond to the adjustments we made late in the game." Friday will not only be Senior Night, but will also end the competition in the Hoosier North for LaVille. Beginning in 2023-24, the Lancers will be joining the Indiana Northern State Conference with Bremen, John Glenn, Jimtown, Tippecanoe Valley, and Knox. "Tonight is a special night for our much respected seniors and their parents," Kaiser said of the Class of 2024. "This particular group has shown what continued dedication year round does for them. Their success that they have experienced so far in our program is just a small example of what I know each of them will find in other challenges they will face throughout the rest of their lives. I'm honored and proud to say I have been a part of their lives . . . this program will miss them! "This game closes our chapter in the HNAC . . . this has been a great conference in our week to week competitions and has allowed us to raise our bar as an entire program. We want to have our going away party tonight to be a memorable one and in order to do that we have to take care of Culver and get that 'W'." As Kaiser's club works to finish the season on a positive note, he acknowledged his team for a good week of preparation."Practice this week has been another solid one," said Kaiser. "Our guys have been locked in and know what this one means being its Senior night. I'm excited to get under the lights and get after them." According to Kaiser, Culver is not dimensional. "Culver will mix things up offensively . . . they like to spread you out and sling the ball, but will also pack it in and run," Kaiser said of the Week 9 opponent. "We must play assignment football for 48 minutes. Couple guys that stand out on film are RB's # 12 Jack Rodgers and #24 Brady Kindernay . . . also QB #9 Jonas McCuen with his strong arm." Rodgers is the leading rusher for Culver, 329 yards, four touchdowns, and a couple of 100-yard games. McCuen has yet to throw a touchdown pass and has 10 interceptions. On the defensive side, Rodgers and Caleb McCuen are the top tacklers. "Defensively Culver will run a 4-4 that has a couple physical LB's led by #54 Braiden Molebash and #12 Jack Rodgers," said Kaiser. When asked what concerns him about Friday's HNAC game, Kaiser said, "Concerns going into tonight's game that we must overcome are not allowing some emotions to distract us from getting a fast start. We also cannot overlook their record on paper, and catch ourselves looking into next week. Taking care of the task at hand and moving on is what we must do. Weather is also going to be potentially a concern that can limit what both teams may want to do. We need to play 48 minutes of LaVille Football. "We hope to see Lancer Nation out in full force tonight as we honor these great seniors and work towards another conference win . . . Pack the blankets, rain gear and hand warmers and show your support to our program again as you all have done so far this year!!" Game on . . . .
