LAKEVILLE - As 2A #5 LaVille stepped onto Lancer Field Friday for the regular season finale against Culver Community, LaVille coach Jeff Kaiser was well aware it was Senior Night. The first-year Lancer coach also knew it was the final Hoosier North Athletic Conference for LaVille. LHS will move to the new Indiana Northern State Conference in 2024-25. After handing the ball over on downs during its first possession, LaVille proceeded to score on four possessions to close the first quarter and open the second period. The Lancers then tallied three more touchdowns in the second half to defeat Culver Community, 52-0. "Overall we played really good football," said Kaiser, who watched his state-ranked football team improve to 8-1 overall and finish 6-1 in HNAC play. "We got off to a slow start in the first quarter but midway through we started playing LaVille Football." It was the first shutout of the season for the Lancer defense, who also rank #6 in Class 2A and inside the top 40 among all classes in points allowed. After giving the ball over on downs near midfield, the Lancer defense forced the first of three Culver fumbles to respond on four of its next five drives to jump to a 30-0 lead. LaVille opened the scoring as Cody Allen hustled 5 yards for the touchdown. Lucas Plummer found Michael Good on a simple out pattern for the 2-point conversion. After the LaVille defense forced another fumble, the Lancers cashed in to open the second period. Allen busted loose for 16 yards, then sprinted through a huge hole at the line of scrimmage for the 2-pointer. Culver punted twice in the second quarter, giving the Lancers two more chances before the half. Allen broke through the right side of the offensive line, cut left, then simply outraced the Cavalier secondary to score his third TD. "Cody Allen is having success in his game this year and has put up nice numbers every week," said Kaiser. "The reason for his success to this point has been his dedication to the weightroom and him trusting his line in front of him. Cody works hard everyday and his consistency shows on Friday nights." Then, right before halftime, the Lakeville hosts went to work executing the 2-minute drill. Good was on the receiving end of Plummer's pass from a yard out with 0:39 left in the half. In the second half, LaVille pounced on a pair of kickoff fumbles by Culver. Lancer fullback Jonathan Neese busted free for a 23 yard TD run, then Jonah Skiles got in on the scoring, getting a 6-yard hitter. Chase Lee closed the scoring with a 23-yard run to pay dirt. Much of the game was played in light to moderate rain thus when LaVille scored a touchdown, Kaiser and his staff opted to pursue the 2-point conversion instead of using the kicking game. "Field conditions were not good at all due to all the rain we had through the week," said Kaiser when asked about using the 2-point attempts. "So we decided to not risk any injury to Lucas Plummer by kicking and just stayed away from that for the night." Allen scored on a pair of 2-point runs, while Plummer connected with Michael Good for another, and Brandon Nettrouer converted on a run. As the game progressed, a couple of LaVille players contributed to the final outcome. Senior Kaide Sanchez had a career-high six tackles to go with a caused fumble, while sophomore Cole Stafford scored his first touchdown on a 6-yard plunge to start the fourth quarter. "Cole Stafford continues to get better each week and Friday proved that," noted Kaiser. "Kaide Sanchez got the start on Senior night and played his butt off. Also Braedyn Foster, Xzavian LaFave, Michael Good and Brandon Nettrouer all had big impacts for us defensively as well." Prior to the game, LaVille held Senior Night recognition for Lucas Plummer, Jonah Skiles, Brandon Nettrour, Kaide Sanchez, Eric Bedock, and Michael Good. "Tonight is a special night for our much respected seniors and their parents," Kaiser said of the Class of 2024. "This particular group has shown what continued dedication year round does for them. Their success that they have experienced so far in our program is just a small example of what I know each of them will find in other challenges they will face throughout the rest of their lives. I'm honored and proud to say I have been a part of their lives . . . this program will miss them!" Kaiser also spoke about LaVille stepping away from the HNAC at the end of the 2023-24 school year. "This game closes our chapter in the HNAC . . . this has been a great conference in our week to week competitions and has allowed us to raise our bar as an entire program." Allen led the rushing attack with 146 yards on 14 carries and three TDs. Plummer continued to show his impact, running for 95 yards on five. He also threw a touchdown pass and completed a pass to Good for a 2-point conversion. LaVille finished the season at 8-1 overall and 6-1 in HNAC play. The Lancers drew Andrean on Oct. 20 in a game scheduled for Lancer Field at 7:30 p.m. LAVILLE 52, CULVER 0 At Lancer Field, Lakeville Score By Quarters Culver 0 0 0 0 - 0 LaVille 8 22 16 6 - 52 Scoring Summary LV - Cody Allen 5 run; Michael Good pass from Lucas Plummer LV - Allen 16 run; Allen run LV - Allen 31 run; Allen run LV - Good 1 pass from Plummer; run failed LV - Jonathan Neese 23 run; Brandon Nettrouer run LV - Jonah Skiles 6 run; Nettrouer run LV - Chase Lee 23 run; run failed CC LV 1st Downs 5 17 Yards Rushing 35 352 Comp-Att-Int 6-12-0 3-8-1 Passing Yards 32 34 Fumbles-Lost 5-3 0-0 Punts-Avg 4-29 0-0 Penalties-Yds 6-41 5-55
