LAKEVILLE - It's GAMEDAY and time for Friday night lights! As the Indiana High School Athletic Association moves into the sectional championship round, there are 16 teams remaining in each class. Class 2A #5 LaVille (10-1) will play host to Bremen (6-5) for the Sectional 33 title at Lancer Field, Lakeville, IN. Kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game be viewed by clicking https://www.ihsaatv.org/?B=729541 through LVH1 and the IHSAA Champions Network. The Lancers and Lions are no strangers to one another with this being the 55th meeting all-time. Bremen leads the series 39-15, but LaVille has won the last six straight. There was a short hiatus in the series from 2015-2018, but the two were able to return to their rivalry in 2019. LaVille and Bremen have met four times in state tournament play, with the series split at 2-2. BHS picked up victories in 1993 and 1994 at Don J. Bunge Field. The Lancers, meanwhile, won a pair of games in 2019 and 2021. Bremen is coming off a 21-18 victory over Wheeler in the sectional semifinal on October 27 at Bunge Field. Following an interception by Will Stiles, the Lions moved the ball inside the red zone where Tyrus Graverson hit what would end up being a 27-yard field goal with approximately three minutes remaining. On Wheeler's next drive is where Stiles picked off the Wheeler pass and the Bremen offense ran out the clock. Graverson was the top receiver, catching four passes for 147 yards and a touchdown. Carson Anderson led the rushing attack with 65 yards on 10 totes and a 2-point conversion. Coach Jeff Kaiser's club eliminated Whiting, 50-0, on October 27 at Galavan Stadium to advance to the finals. After nearly a two-hour drive near the Indiana-Illinois line, LaVille showed it was ready to get to work and set the tone early, scoring two first quarter touchdowns. The clincher was a 30-point second quarter, with four TDs and a safety to take a 44-0 halftime lead."We liked how the entire team came out locked in and ready to take care of business from the start," Kaiser said when asked about how he felt his team responded following the long drive. "Upfront we controlled the LOS (line of scrimmage) and our skilled guys made plays."It was a career night for Cody Allen, Jonathan Neese, and Chase Lee. Allen also rushed for a career-high 192 yards (officially) on 17 carries and two touchdowns. Neese also hit a career-high 76 yards on eight totes, and two TDs. Chase Lee closed out a 63 night, all in the second half, for his career best effort. One of the goals is a sectional championship, but Kaiser and his staff want to see how much their team has grown since back in early August. "We challenged the team and told them this is a measuring stick to see which team has improved the most from week 1," said Kaiser. With both teams making adjustments and improvements from Week 1, it is sure to be an exciting game. "Offensively Bremen is playing with a ton of confidence and have settled into what they like to do, which has allowed them to play fast," said Kaiser. "Defensively they are fast, physical and want to make big plays. What concerns us the most is the balance they have in Greene and Graverson.. we have to keep track of them both on every down because if not Laidig will get them the ball. "The challenge they bring is their defensive front is fast and physical. They gave us fits week 1 in their scheme upfront and that's a concern for us. Some key Guys to watch are OLB Stiles, DB's (Reece) Greene and Graverson, and then throw in (Cody) (Cody) Czarnecki and (Austin) Young at LB's as well." As for Lancer football, Kaiser says, "every team that is still playing has improved from Week 1 and that's why they are still alive in the playoffs. We feel that our O-line has matured and built trust in one another which has allowed them to be physical, our RB's now find the seams better and attack the LOS and our receivers trust that Lucas is going to place the ball where they can make a play. "Defensively we have been able to develop versatility and guys are able to play multiple spots in our scheme which always helps for mismatches from week to week. We are able to play fast and physical by knowing our assignments."So what are the keys for LaVille? "Keys for us against Bremen will be to win the battle upfront on both sides of the ball," concluded Kaiser. "Offensively ball security and finishing drives with points. Defensively we can't give up big plays especially on 3rd downs, tackle well in space, get pressure on the QB and create turnovers. Looking forward to the backyard brawl and hope all of Lancer Nation is there LOUD and Proud!" LaVille is 5-8 all-time in sectional championship games. The last sectional title came in 2021 in a 41-0 win over Pioneer. Bremen is 15-6 in the sectional finale. The last sectional trophy came in 2018 when BHS won the sectional and regional before being eliminated by Eastbrook in the semi-state. Game On . . .
