SOUTH BEND - As the 2023-24 high school bowling season continues, the LaVille bowling team continues to show its depth. That depth continues to pay big dividends for the Lancers following a pair of Michiana West Conference victories over the weekend. In the first match against Penn, Lowell Heminger, Ryan Riddle, and Hayden Grindle each bowled over their averages to help the Lancers earn a team win over the Kingsmen. Heminger, Riddle, and Grindle defeated their individual opponent, while the 5-man team (with Andrew Wolford and Sean Kubsch) combined for an 849 pin total and the all-important 5 team points. Following the first game, LaVille coach Kevin Kubsch entered Chase Schmidt into the team line up in game two. Schmidt, averaging 170 heading into the doubleheader weekend, stepped up to bowl a 211 as the Lancers picked up three more individual points and five team points for the 45-pin victory over Penn. Riddle and Heminger added one point each for LHS after defeating their individual competitors. As the second match got started, both Schmidt and John Andert found themselves in the starting line up for LaVille. Schmidt bowled a 166, while Andrew Wolford picked up his game with a 194 to lead the Lancers. Though LHS dropped the opening game by 19 points to New Prairie, LaVille battled back in game two. Kubsch inserted Heminger and Sean Kubsch into the lineup. Both paid dividends as Kubsch hit a 192, while Heminger added a 178. Wolford picked up a team point and the 905-786 team win was good for five points as the Lancers rallied for a 11-9 overall victory. That two-point team victory helped LaVille improve to 7-0 to start the season right alongside Rochester. Schmidt ended the day with the high-game of 211, while Riddle closed the day with a high-series of 373. LaVille and Rochester will meet on December 3 at Quick's Lanes in the battle for conference supremacy. The next MWC match, which starts at 1 p.m., will be November 18 against Argos at Parkway Lanes.
