LAKEVILLE - As the regular season came to a close, there were a couple of things that LaVille needed to accomplish against Osceola Grace. Heading into the non-conference game, Lancer coach Matt Thacker wanted to see his club be physical in every phase of the game, extending drives, and turning those drives into points. LHS found ways to be physical en route to a 27-14 victory over the Eagles at Lancer Field. The Blue Crew 'D' also forced five punts, including on three straight drives, and a fourth-quarter interception by Karsen Ross. "We did a lot of good things, but still need to tidy some things up before we get to play again next Friday," said Thacker. "We were able to run the ball and dictate the pace of the game on offense and on defense we were able to get some stops and turn those stops into points." The fullbacks were busy for LaVille, as Lawrence Wood and Madden Brown teamed up for 28 carries and a combined 197 yards. Wood packed bags for a pair of rushing touchdowns. "It was the best we've seen from the FB position all year," Thacker said of fullback power football. "Once Larry went out, Madden Brown stepped up and had a big himself, which is great when you have both FB's having great nights. Dylan (Miller) is a big play waiting to happen, plus, he's a great competitive player. The Lancers were able to remain physical throughout the game on offense, as six different players with carries. A total of 59 carries for nearly 400 yards rushing. Along with Wood and Browns, quarterback Griffen Smith added 68 yards on 16 and Noah Menis had 51 yards on five. "That's what we want to be heading into the playoffs," closed Thacker. "Physical in all phases of the game. When you are physical, good things tend to happen. You seem to make your own luck when you are the aggressor." LaVille improves to 3-6 overall and after drawing a first-round bye, will travel to Knox (4-6) on October 30. The kick is scheduled for 7:30 PM EDT. The two INSC foes played on September 25, also at Knox. LHS led 7-6 into the fourth quarter before the Redskins scored 14 unanswered points for the win.
