ARGOS - As LaVille packs its bags and heads down US 31 about 25 minutes, Argos awaits as the two renew a rivalry that moves toward the 83rd all-time meeting. The game will also be TV-46 Game of the Week. LaVille at Argos can be seen on Livestream Tuesday night on YouTube/Facebook/⁦ @IHSAAtv ⁩ Coach Michael Edison's crew is 0-1 after a 52-45 non-conference loss to rival Bremen on November 30. Just down the court will be Jason Breden and his squad that evened its record at 1-1 following a 62-46 victory at West Central on December 1. Breden is not only a 2016 graduate of LaVille High School, but was also an assistant coach on Michael Edison's basketball staff. "Jason Breden has done a great job at Argos," Edison of Breden.  "He runs a lot of similar things that we do and he will know about everything we are doing.  It will kind of be like a chess match, but I expect him to have his team completely ready to play us.  Jason holds a very special place in my heart as he played for me and coached with me." Argos will bring a lot of youth to this game, with the roster filled mostly freshmen (4) and sophomores (3).  Sean Richard is the lone senior for Breden's squad, checking in at 6'2".  A duo of juniors will also be counted on 6-2 Hayden Hensler and 6-6 Luke Stults. "Argos has a nice team this year," Edison said of Dragons.  "They have a nice mixture of younger players and a couple veterans.  They have one of the better penetrators who can get to the basket in Richard.  They have always been a tough opponent for us, especially at their place." LaVille trails the all-time series against AHS, 46-36, and it has been a while since LaVille has won at Argos.  To the day, six years ago - December 5, 2017 - Edison's club returned to Lakeville with a 42-35 victory.Luke Beehler, who went on to become a 1,000-point scorer, led the Lancers with 13 points.  Rilye Cox had 12 and Connor Wieczorek added 7.  Ian Kindig topped the Argos scoring, also with 13 points and Owen Wilfing chipped in with 10. There will be no doubt, this will be another small-school battle. "We have had a lot of very good, hard fought games between us and Argos," Edison said when asked about the rivalry.  "Nothing comes easy over at their place.  Each school has had quite a number of very good players over the years and I expect this to be a battle just like any other year." When asked about the Argos roster, Edison said, "I guess he has a couple of really nice shooting guards who are freshmen.  (Luke) Stults, a Junior, has some good length to him, but can also shoot from the outside.  (Sean) Richard, the best overall player, can penetrate and get anywhere he wants to on the court. He is extremely tough to stop." Edison also is not quite sure what to expect from a coaching staff that also includes former Bremen head coach Jerry Smith (2016/17-2019/2020). "Jason may pour all the stops out so I don’t know for sure what exactly he will do on defense," said the Lancer skipper. "I know Jerry Smith is his assistant coach and knows the 2-3 zone very well.  I would not be surprised to see zone, man-to-man, and/or at 1-3-1 1/2 court trap." According to Edison, LaVille must limit Richard from penetrating into the lane, knock down some shots, and play with confidence in order to pick up the 'W'. The Bremen game left LaVille learning a little more about some strengths and weaknesses. "We need to get better defensively," Edison concluded.  "When we shoot the ball poorly it is tough to win games.   Our guys played extremely hard and did some things to keep us in the game and give us a chance down the stretch."  Game on . . .  GAMEDAY Teams: LaVille (0-1) at Argos (1-1) Site: Argos HS Tip: JV - 6 p.m. | Varsity: 7:30 p.m. Coaches: Michael Edison, 215-135 in 16th year at LaVille.
