LAKEVILLE - The LaVille basketball team opens conference play against Winamac on December 8. Hoosier North action gets under way for the Lancers and Warriors as part of a girl-boy doubleheader.  The gals are scheduled to tip at 6:30 p.m., with the varsity guys to follow around 8 p.m. Winamac is 2-2 overall and are coming off a 68-38 loss to Manchester.  Senior John Malchow leads the WHS offense at 11.5 points per game. John's younger brother William Malchow adds 11.3 points per outing, while Brendan Hines chips in with 8 ppg. Coach Mike Springer's team is balanced in rebounding, with the eldest Malchow leading the way at 4.3 boards per game.  William  and Juston Potthoff add nearly 4 rebounds per outing, while Jayse Bentle chips in 3 rpg. According to coach Edison, who had a chance to scout Winamac, ". . . they started off playing man-to-man and then they played 2-3 zone and ran that for the rest of the game.  It is more of an extended zone and you kind of have to read where they are defensively to attack the open space.  It's kind of simple, really. "As far as offense goes, they have the Malchow kid back that is a senior, a strong kid.  He takes it strong, he likes to drive you and then he has a spin move.  He has a brother that is a sophomore, kind of a post player.  And, they have lanky guards." When asked about some keys to a Lancer victory, Edison said, "We have to handle their match-up zone specifically and not have turnovers against that zone.  I think there will also be opportunities for us to get up and go, you know, in transition. We also need to be aware of what they are in defensively and have that attack mentality.  I expect them to be a tough opponent." LaVille enters the game with a 1-1 overall record following a 63-44 win against a young Argos squad. Game on . . .   G A M E D A Y Teams: Winamac (2-2) at LaVille (1-1) Site: Dale E.
