LAKEVILLE - Making adjustments. As a game plan comes together to prepare for each opponent during the season, adjustments have to be made. LaVille coach Nicholas Amor appreciated the way his club approached the non-conference girls basketball game against South Bend Riley. The Wildcats were quick, liked to push the temp0, and had the ability to hit from long range. The pace was going to be hectic. In the midst of the madness, the Lancers stayed composed and came away with a 47-30 victory over the Wildcats at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. While LaVille adjusted to the speed of the game, LHS also began to convert in transition, in the half-court game, and from 3-point territory. In the first half, Amor's team amped up the defensive intensity as well, limiting Riley to just three made field goals in the first 16 minutes of play. " Defensively we did what we needed to," Amor said after watching his squad pull away for a homecourt victory. "We communicated well and found people in transition." Brooke Edison helped the Lancer cause, scoring in each quarter and finishing with a career-high 19 points. The 5'8" guard added 9 rebounds and 9 steals. Sophomore Faith Mejer came off the bench to add a career-high 11 points, while classmate Ava Weil added 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. "The girls were composed in chaos," said Amor. "We worked the ball and didn't settle for jump shots but found ways to get to the rim against an athletic team. We communicated well and found people in transition. We still need to find shooters a little sooner." LaVille improved to 4-8 overall and will travel to Pioneer Dec. 15. The trip to Royal Center, IN., will be a Hoosier North Athletic Conference doubleheader for LaVille basketball. The varsity girls will tip at 6:30 p.m. in the main gym, while the junior varsity boys play in gym #2. Around 8 p.m., the varsity boys square off against the Panthers. The JV girls will also meet in gym #2. LAVILLE 47, SOUTH BEND RILEY 30 At Dale E. Cox Gymnasium, Lakeville, IN.
