LAKEVILLE - The LaVille-John Glenn rivalry continues, this time in girls high school basketball. On Tuesday, December 19, the ladies meet at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.  The junior varsity game is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m.  The varsity will follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. John Glenn leads the series 24-8 all-time, including 8-6 at LaVille since 2000-01. Coach Ryan Reese is in his first season on the Falcon sidelines and has his squad at 8-6 overall.  JG is coming off a 66-14 loss to 4A #13 South Bend Washington. In the loss to the Panthers, Addison Reese led JG with 7 points and Dani Devine had 5 points. The trio of Reese, Devine and Alivia Turnpage lead the John Glenn offense.  Turnpage leads the Falcon offense at 8.1 points per game. Devine adds 7.6 ppg, and Reese follows at 6.6 points per outing. Sophia Romer leads a group of teammates with 4.2 rebounds per game.  Daelynn Nance, Dre Weddington, and Turnpage help complete a balanced attack on the boards for John Glenn. LaVille is 5-8 overall following a 32-22 victory at Pioneer. Though the Hoosier North game against the Panthers was a defensive battle, the Lancers outscored PHS 14-2 in the fourth quarter to pick up the HNAC victory. Coach Nicholas Amor's club trailed 20-18 heading into the final eight minutes when the Lakeville guests started to climb back into the game. A couple of free throws by London Kwiatkowski tied the score at 20-20 with 7:09 left in the fourth. Lily Smith gave LaVille its first lead of the quarter when she swished a free throw to make it 21-20 with 6:27 remaining. Khloe Weaver put Pioneer up 22-21 with a bucket at the 5:44 mark. That's when Mikalah Kuskye stepped up for a big bucket.  After the Lancer offense worked the ball around for a good shot, Mihalah Kuskye was left open just to the left of the key behind the 3-point line.  The junior point-guard swished a trey to put Amor's crew up for good at 24-21. LV would go on to hold Pioneer to 1-8 shooting in the final stanza.  During the 11-0 run by the Lancers over the final 5:44 of the game, Kuskye and Edison hit shots for the final count. Edison scored six of her game-high 14 points in the fourth period.  Kuskye also added five of her eight points during that big Lancer run. With the win at Pioneer, LaVille improved to 1-2 in HNAC play.  The Lancers also won their second straight game for the first time this season. The John Glenn game will be the finale of the 2023 portion of the Lancer schedule. Amor's team will open the 2024 part of the schedule with HNAC leader Caston on January 6.  North Judson on January 9 and Knox on January 12 make it a trio of HNAC games in a row before the start of the 2024 Everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament the week January 15.
