GAMEDAY - Basketball To Host Hebron For First Time

LAKEVILLE - As the 2023 portion of the high school basketball schedule comes to a close for LaVille, head coach Michael Edison understands the challenges the next opponent will bring. Hebron, a Class 2A school from southeast of Crown Point, will venture the 75 minute bus ride to Lakeville for its first visit. The Lancers and Hawks have met three times in recent history, but never at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. LaVille leads this short series 2-1, with both wins coming on a neutral floor in the Indiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state tournament. The loss in the series came in Hebron, IN., by a final score of 60-47 on December 21, 2022. After seeing Hebron twice last season, including a 70-47 victory at the 2A North Judson-San Pierre Sectional, Edison predicted prior to the season that Hebron "could be the best" team on our schedule. So far, Edison's prediction has been pretty accurate. The Hawks are off to a 5-1 following a 45-42 loss at Morgan Township on December 15. "It will be a very tough contest for the Lancers tonight," said Edison. "We need to play 32 minutes very smartly so that we have a chance to stay with the Hawks. It would be really nice to finish up this calendar year on a high note, but we definitely have our work cut out for us." The Hawks average 60.2 points per game, while the HHS defense is one of the best in the state, allowing 41.5 points per outing. Hebron is 4-0 so far this season when scoring at least 60 points. According to Edison, Hebron could present a starting lineup without a player under 6'1". "They have great size as they start 6'7", 6'6", 6'6", 6'3", and 6'1"," noted Edison. "Hebron shoots the 3 pointer very well. They push the ball up the court, set a lot of ball screens, crash the boards hard, and are not afraid to shoot it from deep. They are very well coached, are a possible sectional opponent, and are one of the better teams we have on our schedule." Lancer Nation could see a starting line up that averages 6'4" - Ben Kenda (6'7"), Landen Hale (6'6"), Josh Kenda (6'6"), Peter Socci (6'3"), and Trever Roy (6'1"). "There are brothers in the Kenda boys who are very tall, are left-handed, crash the boards hard, and are good post players," explained Edison. "#33 Hale is their best all around player as he scored about 13 points in 2 minutes of play when I saw them against Kouts. He is 6'6" and can post up or play outside on the perimeter. Socci, #30, is a very good 3 point shooter who does not seem to have a conscience when he plays. They are very talented offensively." Edison says that LaVille must, "value the ball, box out and rebound, and challenge Hebron's shots and make them earn it." LaVille is 3-2 coming off a 56-44 loss to rival John Glenn on December 16.
